my niece has chickenpox and i would like my children to catch it too while they are still young, my daughter 5 and my son nearly 3. my son has tetralogy of fallot and just wondering if anyone has any advice on heart children with chickenpox.. i do have an appointment thursday with the cardiologist so i will be speaking to her but would just like some hands on advice in the mean time :)

If you are thinking about the chicken pox vaccine - beware - you need to have some sort of followup after the vaccine injection to get a blood test to find out if your child has developed anitbodies - if they have not developed any antibodies or a sufficient amount they could still get chicken pox. That's not good if they get it when they are adults. It can lead to shingles and other complications. I say just get them naturally. A little discomfort and maybe a few trying days for mom - but then its over.

Hi there - my 17 year old daughter was born with mulitple congenital heart defects including pulmonary atresia, atrial septal defect, moderate tricuspid regurge and hypoplastic right ventricle. My daughter had chicken pox when she was 4 years old. She had no more problems with it than any other child. Mild fever itching and uncomfortable for a few days then it is all over.

hi thanks for the reply. i have never heard of a chicken pox injection so im sure my children havent had it. my sons cardiologist is really pleased with progress from his op in 2010 so he wouldnt have a problem if he was to get them

Just a heads up if your children have had the chicken pox vaccine they may not get them even if exposed to other children my son is now 11 and has been exposed many many times and has not had them to this day.
