Children's books to prepare a toddler for open heart surgery?

My daughter was diagnosed with Tricuspid Hypoplasia with normally connected greater vessels in utero, and by the age of 6 months had two of 3 surgeries necessary to bi-pass the effected, right side of her heart.

Her third surgery is planned for around her 3rd birthday, and I'm looking for recommendations for any childrens' books that would help to introduce the idea of open heart surgery to a toddler. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Good luck Marisa my son Ellis is also having third one just after his 3rd bday in September , i too am searching or books and if i find any will let you know. Best of luck with your previous heartchild :) x

I dont have any book ideas BUT usually they have to go to surgery with empty bellies so a good idea would be to make breakfast for her the night before. Making it a special event. There are also some good ideas at www.cincinnatichildrens.org/

operation fix it. its a free book via the heart foundation. explains in childrens terms and is a good story. xx
