I really started hiking from going to find geocaches. Go to geocaching.com to find more about this great hobby. It is an outdoor treasure hunt with a gps and it has taken me to some of the most amazing hiking places.

KIds love it and you never know whatyou will find, not only in the cache but on the hike!!

We LOVE geocaching! Just did a 5 1/2 mile hike this weekend to some hot springs & geocached along the way. I'm buckeyezrule on the site. We've been doing it for a year & 1/2, since the kids were 3 1/2 & 4 1/2. They've loved it since then. We don't do the really difficult ones, but some pretty steep hills, they are good at climbing, & those I attempt w/ hubby so we can each hold a hand. LOL

You just have to be careful with the kids what ones you go for, some are too hard to hike to and some are FUN for them!

I've wanted to try this for a long time, but for some reason never thought of doing it with the kids, even though I hike with them often. I'm gonna grab the GPS and get started! LOL

I took my 7 y/o granddaughter for the first time and you do have to mix it up for them. she was very happy to find a "treasure" with a toy..

Some of you maybe interested in www.letterboxing.org This is a "old fashioned" version of geocaching. Been around for centuries. My kids love having to count steps, find points of interest and use the compass.

My mom is a geocacher. It's really fun, but young kids make the choices of the caches you look for harder. You have to check the terrain and difficulty and all of that. But my older boys live for it. The first question they ask every time they see her is if they can go caching. :)

I luv it! I'm geoangel13 on the geocaching board, my 6yo son loves going with me, he sees it as a treasure hunt, but its a great way to get him away from the video games for a bit!
