Hi,

I started hiking after moving to the Smokies in 2000. I fell in love with being so close to nature. After becoming ill, it became too hard to keep it up. At times, I've wondered if it could actually be undiagnosed Lyme disease from a undiscovered tick bite while hiking.

This week, for the first time since 2004, I decided no matter how bad I felt as was hiking. Today, I hiked the Laurel Falls trail. Slowly but surely, I did it. After reaching the falls, I didn't want to leave them. So glad I went. paula comeaux

Congrats on your come back. I just moved to TN and though I miss the Florida beaches from which I came the mountains are amazing. I would imagine that the hike for you was difficult but worth ever step. I hope it inspired you to continue getting out and hiking- it will help your physical and mental well being !

I have lived in TN for about 13 years and I try to hike the Smokies every couple of years. I also love Fall Creek Falls State Park and the Big South Fork Area. We try to do a hiking/state park trip at least once a year. I especially love the fall time of year.

I lived in South Mississippi before moving to the Smokies. After moving, I felt as if I had come home. As someone I know said, "I didn't understand when people said they 'loved a land, state, region' until coming to the Smokies." I'm not normally an outdoors person, no gardening, sports, etc. So, taking up hiking was new to me. Being immersed in the Smokies, away from the rest of the world, is good for your soul.

I lived in Tennessee most of my life and now that I am in Georgia I really miss the Smokies and the mountains. I loved to hike and now wished I had done it more often. Nothing more relaxing and pleasing then being in the woods.
