Hello everyone. We have a 3 year old and almost 2 year old and have hiked in joshua tree and yosemite. We put the kids in the backpacks and go for it. Its been a couple months since we have hiked, we have a semi seasonal business selling pizza at outdoor music festivals, so we have been working. Getting a little bit nervous because both have grown some, but once we get back to cali we will try the san diego zoo and see how our bodies do. Its great they are growing, but sad because the backpack days will end, and that means only hiking where their little legs can take them.

A friend gave me this book, baby's day out in southern california (for babies and toddlers...it is good, has alot of ideas...museums, parks, zoos, aquariums, gardens, nature centers, farms and ponies, water, amusement parks, trains...very very thorough book. p.s. looking for mom s to do this with me and my 15 month old son :}

Thanks for the tip. I try to search for stuff on line for hikes/activites to do with toddlers and its rare to find the info like, walkways, shade and water. We will check it out.

Yeah, this has become a problem for me since my youngest, now 4, has become too heavy for me to carry on my back. She can hike a good distance for her age, but I try to find time when she's at her father's to go for myself. I live in Yucca Valley. Good luck and take care. When you are out here, try Morongo Preserve. It's great for kids because it has walkways, shade and water.
