just wanted to write a quick post on my love for my baby sling! i never used one with my first son (silly me) but now that i have a second it is a lifesaver. Not only is it a hands-free way to carry baby, especially when they are too small to properly fit a snugli (another hiking must have for the 4-8 month stage) but the sling is a great cover for breastfeeding! its also extremely comfortable and evenly distributes your babies weight over your shoulder and back (and allows you to switch sides for max comfort) My advice to any mom whos hiking with a baby slings are amazing! if you have never used one be warned they are a little tricky at first (or at least it was for me) there are a lot of videos on youtube to show you how to use the various kinds, just be patient! i watched like 20 videos and it still diddnt feel right, be persistant, everyone is different i had t otake my little one for a walk and adjust him almost the whole way before finding what felt right for us! Patience is a virtue, my experience, the pouch sling works the best! Also, stores have great return policies these days so dont hesitate to take it back or take your baby in with you and have the clerk help you figure it out! you wont be the first confuzed mommy they have seen i promise! :) Good luck hiking mommies!!!

I use a baby wrap, and there are so many different ways to carry baby that makes it comfortable for all sizes and shapes! These too can be tricky to learn at first, but after some practice it's a sinch and they're wonderful! It's like a hands free hug...on the back, front, or side! And I can make my own for less than $10 (my sister made the one I use now...THANKS SIS! I personalized it).

I used a Bjorn when my daughter was an infant, but while pushing 20lbs, it was killer on my back, so I bought an Ergo carrier - and it ROCKS. The weight is on your hips, not your back, as it should be! She's now about 25lbs and I never use a stroller, it's cozy and practical. I LOVE THE ERGO! And it's good up to 40lbs! TRY IT!
