Sleeping

Our little girl got her harness on 11/5/09, the day she turned one month old. Our biggest current difficulty is sleeping, which is tough enough at this age! She falls asleep for a bit, then wakes up screaming when she finds she cant stretch out. Im sleeping with her on the couch now, as this gave us about 90 min of consecutive sleep, the longest shes gotten since the harness.

Just wondering if anyone has any harness-sleeping suggestions, or is this just something we need to wait for her to get used to? Also, about how long does it take till they really get used to this thing? Its so tough to see our sweet little girl so uncomfortable!

We would use blankets and towels to support my daughter's little arms, legs, head, etc. I think the worst part was the clip in the back. We just left a little "hole" in the blankets for the clip to go into. After we figured this out she started sleeping through the night.

She wore the harness and then a brace from the time she was 2.5 months old until she was 8 months old. She is doing great now - almost 3 years old and in gymnastics! I didn't believe it would then, but everything did work out.

We put pillows under my daughter's legs so they weren't just hanging in the air. She was in it for 12 weeks- from 1week old-13 weeks.

We put pillows or folded towels under our son's mattress to raise it up a bit. He was in the harness for 9 wks, now he is in a DB Brace. He is nearly 7 months now, been in the brace for 4 months

Thanks for all of your support! We've had it for about 2 1/2 weeks now, and she's definitely getting used to it, for the most part at least. Sleeping is still a bit tough, we've been having her sleep in this little vibrating papasan chair, because she will NOT sleep lying flat, as in her crib or bassinet. I think this is because her legs are somewhat suspended in the air and she doesn't feel comfortable. We'll probably just keep using the chair, unless someone else has ideas? What did you guys do to help your kids sleep?

Also, we've been told this will be a 2 month thing, but it seems others had this a good deal longer. How long did everyone have to use the harness?

It could take time to get used to, but if you are worried, don't be afraid of going back to your docotr. My son had a harness from 2 days old, he was very cranky and unsettled. When we had an ultrasound of his hips at 6 wks one hip was completely dislocated. The harness also hadn't been adjusted properly as he grew we discovered later. I don't want to panic you, but give it time, then see your doctor if you aren't happy

I can tell you that my lil girl Just got her spica cast on Oct 28 09. She stil isnt sleeping through the night! But she stopped screaming when she wakes up. All I can do is turn on her favorite cartoon & wait for her to fall asleep again. Im thinking this will continue until she gets it off. I feel for you, im goin through the same thing now. Good luck.

My daughter Shai was in her harness from 2 months until 8 months. When she was feeling really uncomfortable we put her in her vibrating/bouncy chair. It seemed to do the trick.

Your daughter may get more used to it with time... I've been there... I know how you're feeling right now. Hang in there!
