We are homeschooling our three daughters who are in 9th, 7th and 5th grade and we love it. We have combined efforts with a few other families with children in a similar age range and it makes for an exciting and creative learning environment!

I use Homeschool Tracker to give me a general idea of how many hours we have put in.  Our state requires a certain number of hours per year so I do try to keep track.  We use ABeka for most of our lessons along with Learning Language Arts Through Literature for LA and Exploring American History as well as Learning Through History and the Homeschool Radio Shows for learning history and some geography.  Even with basic requirements for schooling we find that there is no way we can put in enough hours so chores are figured in as well as hobbies (like computer programming or web design).  Their Taekwondo classes were figued in as Physical Ed class, too.

We also don't spend nearly as much time on each lesson as public school does, so when figuring in time, I allot 45 minutes to most classes (20 for spelling and less time for each set of chores - keeping with a realistic amount of time).  If they finish ahead of time, they are still marked as fulfilling their 45 minute requirement.

Hello everyone! I'm interested in homeschooling my 8 year old daughter but I have no idea where or how to begin. My husband is active duty Army and I'm familiar with moving every few years as I was a military brat as well. Any advice or info would be of great help?

Hi, My name is Ada and I have been teaching at home since '98. My oldest son graduated in 2005 and my youngest is in 5/6 grade.. We are registered with Gateway Christian. I am wondering how strictly others stick to the hours per day of schooling. We dont usually even time ourselves we just do a predetermined amount of work.. thanks

I have a four year old girl who does go to preschool three days a week. I'll be homeschooling her for kindergarten. I find that she already loves to sit and work with her 6 yr old brother when we do are studies.

We have 2 children, a 20 year old and a 3 year old........don't tell me God doesn't have a sense of humor!!! We pulled our oldest out in the 8th grade and home schooled him until he graduated 2 years ago. I am going to start doing a little bit with the 3 year old, who will be 4 in March, in just a little bit. He wants to be "in school" like his big brother who is at college. We are excited about starting him from the beginning and not having to unlearn all the stuff from public schools. I don't have all the answers but maybe I could be of some help to someone.

HI there i have a couple questions we are thinking about putting my daughter into school but not 100% sure yet, I really want to home school but how do i know what i have to teach like where do i get the material, also how do i go about doing it. Thanks stephanie
