Hi all. Do any of you use or have used ACE? If so, I would like the pros and cons of this curriculum. We have been using Abeka but I am thinking of changing to something different this year. Thanks

I am in the same boat!! I did ACE through school and LOVED it,,,,we are using the Abeka DVD's and has been going good until this year (4th grade). I have a child who is struggling with attention span and the fast-pace of Abeka. I am hoping working at his own pace with ACE will make a HUGE difference!! We'll see!!

Pro's: child can work at his own pace, colorful PACEs and comics keep child interested in learning
Con's: student scores own work which COULD be a temptation to cheat. Sometimes child only learns/memorizes the work until test is taken and then forgets what he's learned

I have been home schooling for seven years. My boys are 11 and 13 years old.

We are doing Lifepac from Alpha and Omega Publishers. It is a wonderful system. My husband is a great academic and he loves it too. It is not the easiest system in the world, but if you get the hang of it, it does compete with the very best. We started off at Preschool with ACE and the learning to read program is the best, but it is very expensive and we switch to Lifepac. Very affordable and certainly not inferior to ACE. Here in Africa my only problem is support, but I am sure if you are in America you will get much support from Alpha and Omega Publishers. The other great thing about it is that it has already been selected according to grades and you get the complete grade in a box. With ACE you have to order the entire PACE’s separate and it is easy to miss something.

We tried ACE when my son started second grade. We had been using Abeka and tried to switch...wasn't a good move for us. He had been ahead for his age, but using ACE set him back. It was slow and quite boring in his opinion. We use Abeka for both of my boys now except my 7th grader is now using Teaching Textbooks for pre-algebra.

We use a combination of AO Life packs and creating our own curriculum from old text book the public school has used. I am currently waiting for a shipment from Stratford for my oldest (14) to arrive. He finished his 9th grade work for the year 4 months ahead of schedual.

I have tried ACE with my children. Every kids is different. My 10 year old, who is a keen learner, loved it because he could work ahead on his own. My 12 year old hated it because it was only words and numbers and so he found it boring. This was when my boys were 8 and 10.

I used it for kindergarten. Currently using a combination of Math-U-See and Switched on Schoolhouse and they're working for us (13yo boy doing mostly 9th grade work).
