Is anyone else homeschooling their special needs child through high school? My oldest two are on the autism spectrum and have been homeschooled for almost 8 years now. They are thriving. I have never met anyone else who has homeschooled their special needs child thorugh high school. Would love to chat with someone about this.

We've been homeschooling all the kids for 8 years. Some have never been to regular school and never will. Feel free to e-mail me privately and we can talk about it if you want. I talk at homeschooling conferences about homeschooling special needs kids. dustydon@surewest.net

Though I'd like to adopt more, my husband said it wouldn't be fair to the three we have. They were a sibling group and ages 4, 5, and 6 when they came into my life. I feel that they are being left behind in the classroom because they don't have the time to spend one on one with each. I originally was only considering my older two but have considered for my daughter as well (her disability requires more attention and supervision). Have you started your research or already homeschooling?

Mine are all adopted too (all 6). The more I've debated this, the more I've realized they need to be home. The schools in our area are not doing well and I'm not subjecting my children to less than the best care.

I've been wondering the same thing! I have three adopted children, all with different levels of special needs, and I'm just wondering if this would be more beneficial to them than mainstreaming them into the public school system.
