How should I give my baby his first feeding of rice cereal?

My baby boy is five months old. He does really well with formula and is starting to get hungrier more often. I am wanting to give him some rice cereal to test it out. I have tried giving him the proper mix of formula and rice with a spoon but it is too liquid-y. I then tried giving it to him with a dropper and he was spitting it out. A bottle wasn't working because the rice was stopping up the nipple. Is there another way to give him the rice?

If he is spitting it out he may not like the flavor add some applesauce something sweet to it ans make it a little stiff but not too much where it could cause him to become constipated,,,really there is no ther way to give it to him. The bottle is the worst way to start him.

put it on your finger or use a spoon made for baby.

the spoon is the best way, but don't use the rubber coated ones. at this age, he doesnt need anything besides what the formula provides, so really you are just letting him get used to the taste and texture. about a tablespoon of the cereal mixture is very filling. he will spit it out numerous times before he gets the hang of swallowing solids.

What I did with all 4 of my daughters was get a cereal bottle,or a bottle with the X cut on the nipple like a Nuby bottle,and mix cereal in with the formula or breastmilk to where it is still very liquidy. Make sure you don't give it to him too often though because it can affect his bowel movements if he gets too much cereal in one day. Give it to him once a day and then up it to two times a day once you know he is doing ok with the cereal added. Once they get used to drinking it this way you can up the amount of cereal you put in it until its too thick to come through the nipple and that is when you switch to s bowl and spoon or use the spoon on the cereal bottle. By then he should be ready to start baby foods =)

feed him off a spoon the bottle is the worst thing that you can start just make sure that its not too thick and its warm and give him about 2 to 3 ounces of water or milk to flush it down...i hope this helps
