I have noticed this for awhile, he lives with me the majority of the time, I speak english to him. On his weekends with his father, his father's family speaks to him in spanish. My son has gone back to daycare and they have said that he keeps to himself a lot and will mess up on his ABC's. At first I though Autism, but I have a friend who has worked with children that have Autism, she said he has no signs. Where can I find a speech therapist for my son, so that he will not be shy to speak anymore, and so we can understand him better. I would love any advice on this, thank you.

Call your local elementary school. at age three the public schools provide the service free of charge. they should set you up to meet with your child and then have an ARD which is really just a meeting with you, the speech therapist and probably the assitant principal to discuss what they think your child needs. If they think that he needs therapy for his speech they will set up a time for you to bring him in usually once or twice a week. i had my daughter evaluated just after her third birthday and she has been in speech for a little over 6 months now. It has made the world of difference!! my little child who I couldn't understand anything she said except for mommy and daddy and juice is now stringing not just words together, but entire sentences and able to tell me about her day at school and what her problems are when she is mad instead of just melting down and crying. I strongly urge you to get started now so your son can communicate with you. Best of luck!!
