Global Delays

What is your experience with children with global delays catching up?
My daughter is 23 months (21 adjusted) but is measured at a 10.5 month age range. Her developmental pedi explained that they will test her again at 3 years old. If she isn't measuring at least 70% by then, that is when they begin to worry that she will not catch up. Current calculations: 10.5 divided by 21 months is 50%. (They will only adjust until she is 24 months) So looks like she has a bit over a year to catch up. What experience have you had with this time table?

She received PT (1x week) & OT (2x month) from the time she was 3 months old until Aug 2010 from ECI with little to no results. From that point on, I switched to a private company that now comes out 2x week for PT and 2x week for OT, added a pedi chiro and Anat baniel Method lessons and from Aug-present she went from not even sitting unassisted to sitting unassisted, getting into the sitting position and crawling position, to commando crawling, crawling and is now pulling to stand and beginning to cruise. I just hope that now that she has "taken off" so to speak, she will be able to catch up with her other delays- speech, walking, fine motor skills ect

I threw milestone expectations out the window a long time ago but just want to hear from other moms feeling the same way. Hopeful.

Thanks for reading.

I'm in Texas. I found a local practitioner from the website. I hear it is pretty pricey to go to the center, but gosh that would be a wonderful experience. The work really is amazing, noticeable after the very first session. I am so excited for you! Please keep us posted on your experience. It really is a hidden gem.

I've been reading about the Anat Baniel Method. Do you happen to live near the center or did you start with a local practitioner? My mother-in-law is a physician, I asked her about it and she thinks I should get right on with it. I was looking on the website and it said something about going to the center to get started then working with a locally trained practitioner in between sessions.

Thanks for your reply Kathy.
"Every time someone told me I'd wish he wasn't walking once he did I'd wonder if they had to be smoking crack. Why would you not want your child to progress." - Agreed!

I can't wait until my daughter turns 3 so I can get her into Hippo Therapy. I hear swim therapy is great also. I will be doing that this summer. I also join Mommy Groups during the Summer for peer modeling. That was so wonderful for Kylie. I tend to keep her on lock down during cold and flu season. But as soon as we're in the clear we'll be back at it.

My son is now almost 7. Everything is still a struggle. He is progressing more slowly than others but he is progressing. There is such a wide range of expected development not reflected in typical developmental charts. I was told walking at 2 years was not considered that late. It sure felt late. Every time someone told me I'd wish he wasn't walking once he did I'd wonder if they had to be smoking crack. Why would you not want your child to progress.

That's great progress. Some kids just start doing it and lose the delay and others don't The most influential thing for my son and been peer models. I also found Hippo Therapy the thing that got my son moving forward with everything from speech to balance issues. I wish my son had all the therapy you child is getting. I haven't heard of pedi chiro or Anat Baniel.
