It is different just being a parent and not being in charge isnt it. I understand where you are coming from. My two sons were in Cub Scouts and my oldest is still in Boy Scouts. I have always been involved with my sons when they were in Cub Scouts. I learned to step back a little when my oldest got into Boy Scouts. Then when we moved back to Illinois, I got more involved as the troop here was just getting restarted and needed guidance. My daughter joined a girl scout troop and I have just been mom and not doing to much. I tried a couple times but her old leader didnt seem to want any help. So I stepped back. She changed troops in the fall and again I have volunteered my services but that is as far as it gets. Which being a mother of 3 active kids I said maybe that is way it is suppoe to be. It is my hope that my oldest attain his EAGLE Scout this fall. Good luck. Amy

My daughter started scouts when she was in Kinder as a daisy and now first year junior..she loves it.

Does anyone know of a girl scout troop near downtown Chicago? I have a 7 year old daughter who I think would love it. I sent a message to the main office but didn't get any replies regarding troops here. Thanks!

Congrats on being a leader and Thank You for stepping up and helping your pack go. Follow the program helps and use your parents to help organize and plan. Remember everything that the scouts do is for the boys. Make it fun and active. Boys want to be busy, not sitting in a chair doing paper and pencil activities. Hands on activities and experiements went over very well with my scouts.

Cub scouts starts at first grade with tiger cubs. then wolf, bear webelos I , webelos II.  You can start at any level and at any time of the year.  I have been a leader for my boys pack and help with the boy scout troop too.  I just crossed over my youngest of 3 boys from cub scouts to boys scouts last Feb.  I've done just about everything in the books.  My oldest son obtained the Eagle Scout rank last January. My second son is on the road to eagle also.  If you have any questions I can answer them or get the answers for you.

We started at the end of September and we only have our Bobcat badge. We are currently working on the Tiger badge. I don't think time matters. I don't even know what blue and gold are.:) I guess I better look int it. It is great that they are having fun! I think that is the main goal. If I see smiles, I know things are going good. We have a small group also with six kids. I like it small.

I don't know if we started late but my goal was to get everyone their Tiger badges before the Blue and Gold and I think we are going to do it. My problem is that we were up to five with one additional possible and now we are at a steady three tigers. I wish we had more kids! But the kids are having fun! So that is important! Thank you for the post.

Hi Danielle,
I am also a Den Leader for My son's Tiger Scouts. This is my first time. It has been fun so far. I usually follow the program on the "Cub Scout Program Helps" page. It gives you a run down of what exactly to do each week. I also have a lot of help from our Scout Master.
