im 16 weeks pregnant and have hyperthyroid and i am worried about the affects this will have on baby any advice? also baby is small and i can not seem to gain more than 1 pound but then i lose it over night...

Typically the baby will get the nutrients they need regardless of your needs being met. They will literally leech minerals and nutrients from your body, which led to the old wives tale of "one tooth per child" - women did lose an average of one tooth per pregnancy from poor nutrition. That said, I didn't gain weight until I was overdue with my first, lost 34 pounds by the end of the pregnancy with my second, and only had a total gain of 3 pounds with my third. All 3 were average size or larger (8# 3oz, 7# 3oz, 6# 1oz), and none had damage as a result.
My thyroid hormone cycled from being too high to too low for my first two pregnancies, then it was removed. For my third, my thyroid hormone level was critically low, which can cause miscarriage.
If it is severe, there are medications that can be given during pregnancy to control hyperthyroidism, not just hypothyroidism. http://www.endocrineweb.com/conditions/t...
