Hi! My name is Naida. I'm from Chicago, IL. I have a 1yr. old son named Donovan. When I was 6 months pregnant I had an ultrasound that detected an enlarged kidney (left). The doctors kept a close eye on my son and I. When I was 8 months my OB said that my son had a multi-cystic dysplastic kidney (left kidney) and hydronephrosis (right kidney). When he was born they said that he needed surgery to remove the cysts that traveled down to his bladder. They also said that his left kidney only worked 14% and the right only 86%. So neither kidney worked 100%. Then when he was 6 months old they said that the left kidney was starting to shrink to almost nothing which was a good thing because that meant that he didn't need surgery to remove the kidney. In November he had an ultrasound and xray that showed reflux in the left kidney and extreme reflux in the right kidney. They did surgery this past February 4th. They re-implanted his ureters to his bladder to stop the reflux. Today we went for a follow-up ultrasound and it showed that the Right kidney is now enlarged which is very bad. His right kidney was the good kidney. April 1st we're going for another ultrasound and scheduling his 3rd surgery. They will be putting a tube into his kidney through his back to drain the kidney. The tube may be long term. Wish us luck!
