At what age would you allow your child to get Tat's a piercings?

in Oz you can actually get a tat under 18, but have to have a parent present, as for facial piercings, I am not sure how old you have to be to get them without a parent but my niece has a nose ring and is 13.

I was 18 when I got my first and I bought it myself. So if my son wants one then he will have to wait til he is 18 and can buy it himself. But I will go with him!

Having a 17 yo my rules are: she could get her belly button pierced at 15, ears 2 holes and 1 in cartilage, no tongue piercing as long as she lives in my house (no matter the age), and no tats or other piercings until I don't have to sign a consent form lol! I have told her that she needs to keep the tats where she can hide them, she never knows when she will be judged for a job! I have one on my neck and that is something that I have to keep covered in the workforce (office job) just so I am not judged. But once she's 18 it's up to her, can't make her remove a tattoo! She does harass me constantly, but I tell her I was 25 when I got my first tat she can wait til she's 18!

I dont really care about piercings, except gaging your ears, since once you go big they stay big- but tattoos I won't allow before 18. i waited until 24 to get my first tattoo and I'm glad I did- otherwise I weould have ended up with some meaningless flash- probably a tramp stamp LOL

Tattoo, my daughter will be 18 when she gets one. When she turns 17 I will tell her for her 18th birthday I'll buy her a tattoo, so she'll have a year to get together something she wants and put a lot of thought into it. As for piercings, it might change over time, but perhaps 16/17 if it's something simple like a belly button/nose ring.

On piercings it would depend on what type of piercing it is. But I'd say other than ears, mine would have to be at least 17-18 for anything drastic. For tattoos I'd agree to 16 if it truly meant something to them, like a memorial/tribute type of tat. I definitely know how it can feel to get a really good tattoo that holds a lot of meaning to you, and as a teenager (provided they are also mature enough) it could be a way to cope with whatever issue it may be, give encouragement, etc. But as far as just a tattoo for show or because they just want one I'd say 18, and they still live with me or I'm paying for their college, I've gotta approve it and the artist. Of course at 18, they can do as they please but if either daughter came home with something just random and not thought out &/or shoddy work I would be p*ssed! LMAO And for the record by Sat, I will have 9--maybe 10! ;)

I was 18 when I got my first piercing and I was 20 when I got my first Tat. I'm sure my daughter will ask to get something when she is older but I would really rather her wait till she is at least 18 and hopefully something she will enjoy for the rest of her life!!

I agree.  I am a body piercer so I will be doing any piercings my daughter gets and taking her to tatoo artists who are highly reputable this way I can be sure that they are done properly with sterile equipment and proper jewelry.  My fiance and I agreed that once she is in her teens we will alllow second lobe and ear cartilage piercings.  When she is 14/15 and mature enough we would probably let her have a nostril stud or maybe a lip piercing.  Anything else I wouldn't do for her until she is 18.  I don't have a problem with a navel when she is 15/16 but her dad does.

my husband i agreed on 18 for tattoos and piercings its really gonna depend on what she wants pierced, like ears are fine at any age but i guess facial piercings/belly like 13ish. my mom and i argue about it alot b/c she wouldnt let me get anything but ear piercings untill i was 18 and i honestly dont get why its a huge deal with parents, they arent permanent! lol

In oz I'm pretty covered because you can't legally get a tattoo before 18 or a facial piercing before, I think 15 now? I think the best places are legal so as long as they went somewhere decent I'd be fine with it. You never know though, I love tattoos but my kids might hate them.

My oldest is 15 1/2. She has her nose pierced and has for about a year. She asked me if she could and I didnt care, but convincing her dad was another story. He told her no but then told me I should get mine done as he thought it was sexy. I told him that if he let our daughter do it I would do mine too. So, she and I went in and got it done together. But, I will draw the line at piercings. I have 7 tats and my husband has 8 - obviously that isnt the issue. I have told my daughter that piercings are not permanent. She can take the stud out and it will grow back together. Not the same for tats. She will need to be 18 and I have encouraged her to wait a few years after that to make sure she really wants to have a permanent tat - and to put a lot of thought into the design. But, if she decides later to get one I will support her!

My son is 2 and his father/my fiance is a tattoo artist. I would agree that the level of maturity of a child needs to be taken into consideration. I would not be okay with a young person getting their 1st tattoo somewhere that is not easily concealed. No matter what his/her friends say, tats on hands, necks, forearms etc. are going to limit the choices a kid has in life. It's sad but true fact that some parts of society still look down on tattoos.

My son got his first tat when he was 18 and I paid for it (I think I paid for it because he put my name on him) LMBO!!! But my daughter is 17 and wants one bad, but I think I may have her wait until she graduates this year and let her get one as well - I have 5 and I am hooked!!!

I was 15 when i had my 1st but i would say 18 as its the legal age in the uk...like the lady who posted before me it depends how mature they are...its a personal choice really whatever you and your son feels right...he may not want tattoo's or piercings ...

my daughters 15 an she has 2 tats.1 on her bak n 1 on her shoulder.i hav 6 so i cudnt say much,just 2 b sure of da dats she choses as she will hav 2 live with dem 4 rest o her life..an it depends on how mature dey r as well..
