Confessions of a Circumcised Dad

Interesting read from a circ'd man's perspective:

I must admit that I probably only thought about the subject of circumcision three times before becoming a father. When looking back on it, I’m in disbelief that I would ever accept the reasons for my own circumcision and others.

When my mother said that little boys should look like their fathers and brothers; it hurt. Although, it doesn’t bother my son in the slightest, it does remind me that I am not whole. It’s hard to ignore the scar.

However, I’m going to make the best of it. I refuse to change my youngest son to look like me; I have chosen to look like him, instead. I have decided to restore my foreskin, and encourage other circumcised fathers to do the same. Hopefully one day, ALL fathers and sons can be happy and whole together.

By the way, ALL circumcised men have scars. I never even noticed my husband's scar until I became an Intactivist and learned about the anatomy of the penis. You don't see it, because it's "normal" to many Americans.

This link shows photos and identifies circumcision damage in the adult male. Includes photos and description of curvature/no skin mobility, scarring, keratinization, missing frenulum, skin bridges, pigmentation variations, & missing portions of glans.

My partner was circumcised and he suffers from a variety of problems due to the unnecessary surgery including: a very large/visible scar, "hairy shaft" (the scrotum being pulled onto the shaft during erection, desensitization and resentment from being circumcised without his consent.

My husband is circed and his is scarred and there is even a little hole in the skin:(
He was 100% supportive of keeping our boy intact and now we have had a son he's felt hurt and angry that his parents weren't educated and didn't feel strongly about protecting him from being surgically "improved" as a baby.

That's great! Maybe because his surgery (I am assuming) was performed by a urologist, and not an OB? It would have been micro-surgery I presume? I'm sure the odds of scarring from that sort of op is much lower than a routine circ.

You would think so but, even Ethan's surgery is unnoticeable on his penis.

I think it's more the fact that a circ'd penis is considered the norm in the US, so the scarring is just taken to be normal too. Obviously some cases (as in botched jobs) are much more severe and noticeable than others, but it is my understanding that, as with any surgical procedure, there will always be *some* scarring.

No, I know no one was saying it WAS the norm. And yeah, I'm not sure about my statement either, I just know that I've never seen a scared or bent penis from a circumcision. I don't doubt that it happens... but, it would make sense that the more a doctor does it, the better he is at it. Don't get me wrong, I'm still not suggesting that it's a good idea. ;)

No one said it was the norm. It does bear looking into. I'm not sure how I feel about the statement of it being done so much that no scaring is left either. =S

For some men they may never notice the scar, some men have rather large heads on their penises so may not notice. Some don't but may never look close to find out.

I've been with and heard about men with bent (curved) penises. It came down to scar tissue most times, only a handful were because of the way they placed it as growing up (constantly pointing it up for example when adjusting). Not all of those men I slept with either, my girlfriends talk, a lot. Some included drawings. =/ I will say this, some men have odd shaped penises, circ'd or not.

I've seen a penis or two in the US ;), where most men are circumcised, I've never seen a bent penis. Just throwing that out there in case you guys think that is the norm.

Oh, golly and I'm not here to counter act what's being said (just read some more) but, I've never seen a "scar" from a man who's had it done. Maybe since it's so common here, doctors know what they're doing so it doesn't scar and bend?

This is where a lot of resistance comes from with fathers who are cut. I imagine it would be extremely confronting to be constantly faced with what was taken from them.

You know my ex was circed and had a bent penis , i wonder if that's why ?? it makes sense

Same here.. I wonder if this has been medically proven as a side-effect of circ or is just anecdotal?

It takes a bigger man to restore to look like his son when the argument of "look like me " is in play .

"The lack of elasticity and freedom of movement also led to the curvature of my member during puberty."

That is honestly something I've never thought about or heard of. It bears looking into some. I wonder how many other men are afflicted like that?
