I feel that they should still nap because they get niggly in the afternoons if they didn't nap that day? But sometimes they give me a hard time going to sleep in the afternoons...

I don't make my son nap, he is in Kindergarten now. But I am finding he will come home from school and sneak into his bed and sleep till I make him get up. He goes full days Kindergarten. I only make him nap when he obviously needs it, he gets kinda mean, especially short with his little sister. It is a battle when Mom wants him to nap, so I try to make it HIS idea, or straight up trick him..lol.. I will stretch and yawn and be all.."man, I wish I was 5 so I could take a nap" and he will tell me I can't because I have to make dinner, then I will say..but nooooooo, I am realllllly tiirreeeed though. he will laugh because I sound like him with my whining voice, then I suggest we chill on the sofa and watch some sponge bob..then about 3 minutes into it I cover him up and go make dinner :)

My daughter wakes up 6am every morning. When she gets home from school she usually has a snack and does her homework then take a 30 minute nap.

neither of mine nap they are 3 and 5 but I say if they will go to bed at bed time when they nap and seem to need it let them have one. If we let mine nap there in no sleep that night

mine stopped taking them when she was about 1 year old. she hated them though and would sleep better at night when she didnt have a nap. but i have a friend who's 4 year old still takes a 2 hour nap every day. i guess all kids are different

I think it really depends on how active they are my 3 year old dd is always running and jumping around and she needs to have a 1-2hr nap, whereas my 5 year old dd is the opposite she likes to write, watch TV, and she has never napped... however she is ready to go to bed at 8pm..

My son doesn't, but sometimes I wish he would! Lol. He started refusing to take naps, insisting he didn't need them.. since he was about 3 1/2. Most days it's not a big deal and he gets through the day without any sleepy tantrums, though there are some days when he still really needs the nap, but won't take one. I will get lucky every now and then, and get him to take one, but that's mostly because he conked out watching Spongebob or something like that, not because he willingly laid down.

My daughter (Grace, my oldest) is 5 also. She isnt on a routine with naps any more but if i can tell she is a little tired she will take a nap.Its totally normal for kids to get tired often so dont worry!

Yes, my son naps for about 2 hours every afternoon Monday to Friday and has no problems sleeping at night. He has to wake up by 6:30 a.m. If he sleeps in later on the weekends, he doesn't always nap but does rest, usually watching a movie, for an hour or two.

My daughter hasnt taken a nap in almost 2yrs. She is in VPK and they don't give naps.

No but mine needs too..lol She goes to pre k and she is the only one not napping everyday. SHe goes to bed at 8-8:30pm and is up at 6:30. She acts crazy around 4ish and I know it is because she is sleepy.

Yes. Mine actually falls asleep on her own... She wakes up early in the morning to go to school... so she takes a nap in the afternoon to recharge...

Fortunately, my 4 almost 5 year old still takes a 1-2 hour nap along with my 2 year old. I think it's a rarity but I try to keep it going at least until he starts kindergarten for my sanity.

My daughter stopped napping this summer. It became a huge battle with her! She does get quite grumpy in the evenings so I am trying to put her to bed a little earlier. Occassionally she will take a nap on her own, but only once in a while!! I do miss nap time!!!

I stopped the naps last year. He wouldn't sleep at night and would fight me on taking a nap during the day. I know some kids may still need them, but I don't force my son to take a nap. He does have quiet time in place of nap. No loud toys or tv just a book or maybe one quiet toy.

No our kids all stopped napping around age 2, but if one of my children is especially cranky I'll make them nap (once every 1-2 weeks). Usually it's hard putting them to bed that night. I would rather them go to bed easily than take naps.

my 2007 baby still naps, but I wake her after about 30-45 minutes, otherwise at night she won't go to sleep till late. During the summer when we were more active, she did take 2 hour naps and still went to bed by 7 pm. My 2009 baby is napping about the same as my 2007 - I guess all babies are different and adust to their personalities and bodies.

we have a rest time after lunch, as long as Kyra is being quiet she does not have to go to sleep. She almost always falls asleep watching a movie.

It depends on how active they are and how tired they are from their morning activities...My daughter knows that she at least has to have "resting time" after she eats lunch...this can be watching a movie together, reading books, some kind of quiet activity to let her wind down a little and rejuvenate the both of us...

We do quiet time still with my 2005 and 2007 baby. They dont have to go to sleep but they do have to lay down and watch a movie or look at books or go to the room and play quietly for a little while. Go with works for you and your children. if the naps and or quiet time does not work for you and your children maybe you can do away with it and just move bed time up

I stopped the nap when she was just over two - it took me too long to get her to sleep, she also was fine and sleeps good every night and does not have meltdowns in the late afternoon as long as we stick to the routine. If she get overtired she get quiet time with a book and music to help her recharge.
