hi there, i was just wanting to know how many mums had pre-eclampsia with first pregnancy

I had pre- eclampsia with my first. Which was a boy. Was not managed and almost lost him. Talk about scary. Never had pre- eclampsia with my other two pregnancies. As for the c-section. When you go through a second pregnancy and another c-section the dr is supposed to remove all old scare tissue and not make new scares. I think the only reason they tell you it will take longer is due to the fact that they may not get all of the scar tissue and you are taking care of two children instead of one. My first took longer to heal then my other two. I went into actual labor with my first and was in hard labor longer then I was with my other two. I choose to have c-sections with my other two pregnancies due to the fact that a I was so scared from the first. I was also told by several different nurses that the rate of rupturing while in labor with second is pretty high. Ask questions and if you are not comfortable with the answers or they don't seem right ask another dr or nurse. Most of the answers are from experience and learning from others.

I have four children and had pre-eclampsia with my first two. The first was born at 32 weeks the second at 34. It's definitely a scary thing, but if you have a good doctor that monitors you on a regular basis (you would be considered high risk with a second pregnancy) you should be ok.

I had pre-eclampsia with all 4 of my kids but it does get easier with each one. I knew the symptoms and I also knew that as long as I followed the doctor's orders, both of us would be fine. I had an emergency c-section with my first baby but my doctor let me deliver my 2nd baby naturally and that was pretty tough. He was born at 32 weeks and the first 6 months was pretty tough. I changed doctors after he was born and my new doctor said that the only way she would allow me to deliver any additional babies was by c-section. My last two babies were scheduled at 37 weeks and I ended up delivering both of them at 36 weeks because of my high blood pressure. After the first c-section, the others were much easier to handle because they were planned and it wasn't as frightening. I think that the scar tissue also helps to toughen up your scar location so the healing (at least for me) was much easier.

Hi Meghan,

I had pre-eclampsia with my first child - now 9, and had it again with my last child - now 2. In both cases it was girls, which lead the doctors to believe that the female hormones caused this condition. When I expected my son - now 7, I didn't have this condition.

All 3 my children were born via c-section. My first c-section was horrible. I didn't know what to expect or how to handle it. My second c-section was a walk in the park. I also recovered a lot faster than with my first one. The third one was bad again, because I had a tubaligation done at the same time, which complicates it little more.

i had pre-eclampsia with my son and had to be induced at 32 weeks...luckily there was not any problems with my son and he did not have to spend any time in the NICU...i heard it gets better with your second child and your obgyn will know your history so i am sure that he-she will monitor you closely

HI! I had it with my frst daughter,the last 7 weeks of my preg. I was miserable,my kidneys started shutting down and I gained 25 pounds in the last 2 weeks of my preg,and had to be hositalized.Luckily with bedrest,I was able to hold off until 37 weeks.I didn't have any problems with my second baby girl,and am now on #3 and haven't had any problems so far.I had both vaginaly so I'm not sure about the c-section question.I will be praying for God to give you comfort on planning the right time for your next pregnancy.Don't worry too much,my doctor told me that most of the time it only occurs during your first pregnancy.

Hi I had it also, but it came in the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy. I had to have emergency c section. I got pregnant with my second when my 1st was only 11 months old. And didn't think my body was ready for it. I gained 50 lbs with my third and was heavier to begin with which is why I think I had pre eclampsia. Then I had lost 65 lbs and found out I was pregnant with my second. I had no problems with my second pregnancy. I chose to do a repeat section becus I felt my body was not healed enough yet. I recovered ALOT quicker second time around!

I had it with my first, induced at 39 weeks because of it but was able to deliver vaginally so I can't help with the c-section question. I still had a long recovery period though just because I had no strength left - the pregnancy really wiped me out! But good news is that both my second and so far my third, have been healthy. I'm now 37 weeks on my third and at my last appointment my bp was up more than usual but before that, it's been beautiful so it could have been one of those days.

Don't let the fear keep you from a second. You know the signs and discuss your concerns with your doctor.

I had pre-eclampsia with my 1st son and ended up in hospital, however with my 2nd didn't have any at all, in fact my blood pressure was sometimes on the low side. I had c sections with both and in fact the 2nd I found way easier than the 1st. I was driving the day after coming out of hospital and walking around the block after 2 weeks. So glad I ended up going with c section 2nd time though as after my Dr told me that she reckons I may have got through 1 contraction but definitely not 2 and my uterus would have ruptured. Good luck with the 2nd if you do.

I also had pre-eclampsia, which is why my son was born 5 weeks early. I also had complications like a hematoma on my vaginal area and low iron and other things. I now have an 8 month old also and I was monitored throughout my pregnancy and nothing happened. Even my delivery went smooth. I don't know to much about c-sections but if you do decide about another pregnancy, let your ob know about your concerns and they can monitor you.

Yes, I had it with my first (causing induced labor @ 37 weeks and a c-section). No problems with pre-eclampsia with my 2nd pregnancy which started 5 months after the first one was born (they are 13 months apart). 2nd c-section was very easy and recovery was a breeze! My doc also said I probably won't experience it again after the 1st, which I didn't.

I heard it gets better from other moms and not have as severe pre-eclampsia. I hopes thats true since I had pre-eclampsia and a c-section. I heard c-sections get worse with each one because of the scar tissue.

hi i had with my first, but had no probs with my other two pregnancys except a bit of raise blood pressure in labour and had to stay in one night for it to return to normal and even going to have a forth so do not worry.

I had pre-eclampsia with my son (first and only). My mom had it with me (her first) but not with my brother. I was assured that it really is a first-timers thing and very unlikely that I'd have it if I had another child. Hope this helps!
