i have been working with my son since he was 2 tring to potty train him. so far he has no trouble saying when he has to go #1. He brags about being a big boy when he pees in the toilet. but i can't get him to go #2 yet. i have tried every potty traing book i could find. i tried the bribery with candy and toys, the big boy underwear with superheros and race cars, the take away big boy toys if he goes in his diaper, and even tried the training doll to have him teach the doll as i try to teach him. so far nothing. i think at this point both him and i are at our witts end over the whole potty training process.

Just do the impossible - and relax. It will happen. My 4yr old son just now started to poo in the potty. I reallybtried everything too - and had no luck until out of the blue, he went to poo in the potty on his own. It will happen. If you are not trying to potty train to meet day care deadlines, preschool deadlines, then please try to relax and it will happen. Do keep encouraging, but mantra to yourself that it will happen. One tip that worked for me was when I saw the early signs of a poo coming (poots, a comment about his tummy hurting, etc.) I put him in the bathroom with only a tshirt on and asked him to try and left him alone in the bathroom. He fussed at first, but soon there was a successful poo. If he was too freaked out or felt too watched he wouldn't go. Like I said, he has been poling in the potty for only about 3 weeks now and I am still amazed each time.
