Baby food recipes

I had been more cautious up to a week or so ago, but I gained confidence and started giving my son pretty much all the same foods we eat. Surprised me to see that one of his favorites was a curry dish. But he likes it, so I feed it. They do still have sensitive digestive systems at this tender age, and I still would want to be judicious and not over do anything, sticking to a mantra of moderation. One thing that I do wonder about is how foods - particularly spices and high fat foods - influence sleep.

I had the same problem but about 2 months ago. My little one only wanted what we were having (on real silverware not the baby spoon). I have 2 books by Annabel Karmel and I LOVE them! They were a real lifesaver when he still needed softer/more pureed foods. Now its just nice for the nights that we're having something that he can't yet eat (because he eats what we're having for most meals.) He loves anything with flavor! Funny storry about flavor- we were grocery shopping & they were giving our samples of Thai rice. I tasted it (not too spicy) and then gave my son a taste... The woman handing out the samples dropped her jaw & told me that was pretty spicy for him. I told her I thought it was ok & that he'd like it. He ate the whole cup (just a sample size) and wanted more. Needless to say I bought the product. I think introducing our kids to flavors and textures now is a good thing!

We just give him whatever we eat. We didn't even attempt baby food lol. If its a choking hazard, I cut it up some :-)

Two absolutely wonderful books that I've found for baby food recipes, and info in general about the eating stages babies go thru, are: "First Meals" by Annabel Karmel, and "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron. These are such good resources for giving a baby a great start in her experience with solid food.

Hi Nicole---By baby's first birthday, solid foods make up around fifty percent of her nutrition. I have a 10 month old who gave up jarred foood a few months ago--I feed him---cooked carrots, finely shredded chicken, sweet potato balls, rice, avocados, lentils, oatmeal, peaches, pears, tofu---basically anything he can hold--because he does not want to be spooned fed ---it gets messy-but he loves it and I feel it is building his confidence, his feeding skills, discovery skills-heck! it's not forever! Once in a while I can get so baby yogurt in him but that is it for spoon feeding

sandra- thanks so much for the info. the msnbc article was really interesting and an eye opener for sure. my little girl actually had chicken fried rice last night at the thai restaurant so why not move on to enchiladas right? thanks for the advice again...i'm throwing out the jarred food. well maybe i'll keep a few :)

Just give baby what you're eating. You don't have to make babyfood, you don't have to prepare anything special. Short of a choking hazard or family allergies, there's really nothing your baby can't have. Have fun!
