Jeffrey was born Jan 1 2008. My husband and I are debating the proper bed time for Jeff. Since you guys have kids the same age or so, please let me know what bedtime you guys use.

Also, have any of you transitioned to the big kid toddler bed yet? When should we do that? Is it based on when they start climbing out of cribs?

My son was going to bed at 8PM but with the time change and also teething issues it has been 9PM the last several nights.  He sleeps till 7ish.

He is still in a crib. Hasn't really tried to climb out. I think we will be waiting until closer to 2 to switch to a toddler bed.

My son was born 1/21/2008 - I've had some time to re-think my response. I do know what I'm doing - I've decided that your child's betime is based on your situation. I am a working mom and I commute 1 1/2 hour each way 3 days a week -  I don't pick my son up from the sitter until 5:30-6p and we don't get home until 7:30. At that point - I spend some time feeding & playing with him until 9.  Then we start the night time routine.  Which means he's sleep around 9:30 or 10 on some nights.  He wakes up around 7-730 on his own.

I will not consider switching to a toddler bed until around 2 or he starts climbing out of the crib. He just stands up now.

My DD was also born on New Years!! She goes to sleep around 9 or 10. I havent switched her to a toddler bed. I'm just going to wait till she is about 2 and just buy her a twin size bed.

My son was born on 1/3/08 and he starts bathtime around 6 or 6:30 and is in bed by 7pm. He wakes up at around 6am, sometimes later...closer to 8am. If he's awake at 6am, he goes back to bed after a pancake for another couple of hours or maybe just one hour depending. He usually takes a long nap in the afternoon as well, from 2-3 hours usually.

We haven't transitioned into a toddler bed and probably won't for a long time. My first son LOVED his crib so much that we just changed his bed from a crib to a full-sized mattress bed at around 3 1/2 years old. He loves the big bed with all his stuffed animals in it and has only rolled out once!! He learned his lesson I guess! My youngest has already falled out of his crib, but I would never think of transitioning him until he gets a lot older!!

My son goes to bed whenever he feels like it! Only because he usually wants to go down before 7pm, haha. If he were a late night owl, i would probably enforce a bedtime around 9.
We have a toddler bed, but I'm not putting my son in it until the fall. I think he's too young right now.

Chloe was born jan 6th 08, and my partner and struggle everynite to keep her awake till 6:30-7, so we don't have any problems with her, but my previous partner and i had many issues with jordan, (now 8). We were given heaps of advise and some of it worked and some of it didn't. the best thing is to try and find something that works for u, making a set routine for nites worked for us, because we were both home to help each other. jordan had dinner at 6, then a bath, and quiet time for half hour, where he played in his room with either mum or dad, picking up toys and tidying his room (comes in handy for later on), then a short story and off to bed by 7:30. this is easy when there is only 1, and probably doable with more. Jordan went straight into a single bed at age 2 and a half, but we haven't even thought about it yet for Chloe.

my daughter was born on jan8, 08. At 7:15 sharp she gets a bath, books, then bed...we call it the 3 B's. Shes usually asleep by 7:45 then she sleeps until about 7:20. if she wakes up before 7 we make her stay in her bed ...which she is happy to just play. Then she naps from 9-10 and then again from 2-4. I use to have a very hard time getting her to bed at night and to take naps but i've found that by keeping a strict schedule that she sleeps much better. She's still in her crib because she's a very active sleeper! hope this helps.

My daughter was born January 8th and we put her to bed at 8 o'clock, 7.30 if she has had a big day. She has one day sleep from 1.30pm till 4pm. The night time routine was the first routine we put in place and she is a great sleeper, never waking in the night and usually getting up in the morning between 8 and 9am.

We haven't put her in a toddler bed yet and friends have told us that a good age to start thinking about that is around 18 months.

My daughter goes to bed around 6:30-7:00 every night and wakes up around 7:00 in the morning.  She takes anywhere from an hour to 2 hour nap.  I've heard other parents talk about how great it is that she goes to bed so early and that their's go to bed around 10:00.  I don't see how a kid could get enough sleep unless their naps were like 3 or 4 hours long!  They still need around 12-14 hours of sleep a day.  :)

I've read other moms on here start toddler beds around 22 months or so, but if Jeffrey is climbing out of his crib, I would think trying to make the transition couldn't hurt.

Zachary was born Jan. 23 and he's in bed around 8 pm most nights and then sleeps from anywhere from 7 am to 9 am and then takes 1 or 2 naps and anywhere from 45 mins to 2 1/2 hours. Toddler bed well his crib changes to a toddler bed and that is when he trys to climb out and he's not doing that so its not getting changed.

wow olivia my son eragon was born January 1 too...I usually start a bed time regiment. and try to have him in bed by 8 - 830 pm at the latest. My son isn't in a toddler bed but only because my toddler isn't walking or climbing out of his crib yet.

oh and about the toddler bed. I haven't bothered yet, he really likes the crib. But when he's ready to start climbing out I will switch.

I also put my son to bed really early compared to you guys. Bedtime is 6 pm -7 pm, usually closer to 6 and very rarely past 630. He sleeps all the way through until 7-8 am. He was 1 or 2 naps a day, depending on whether or not he goes to daycare and how long the early nap was. I experiment with all different times for bed I wanted it to be 8-830 but he was waking up to early and not sleeping very well and was taking longer naps.

My daughter was born on Jan. 28th. On a normal night, she's down between 7:30 and 8. She sleeps until 7-7:30 am. She naps from 12:30 or 1:00 until 2 or 3. Because I have an older child, she's learned to nap at the same time as he does since we're out many mornings.

As for the toddler bed, there's no need to put a child into one until they can climb out of the crib. My son never climed out (only in) so we waited until he was 2 and 1/2. He was better able to understand the whole big kid bed concept and stayed put. Plus, my daughter moves around so much that there's no telling how she'll end up when she wakes up. That makes it harder for them to stay in a toddler bed without falling out.

Seems like you've gotten a lot of different bedtimes. Try to find one that works for your family, not just because someone said that's when their kid goes to bed. All that matters is that your child is well rested. Good luck!

My daughter was born Jan 5th, 2008. She normally is in bed between 8-9pm depending on how difficult she is to get down, she fights sleep like you wouldn't believe. I have thought about the big kid bed issue, though she moves around all night in her sleep i am scared she would end up on the floor rail or not. I am pretty sure they recommend that at about age 2 or up. I hope that helped, feel free to contact me if i can maybe help ya with something else. its nice to find moms with kids the same age

My son was born on Jan 5, 2008. He goes t bed at 6pm, which sounds really early compared with everyone else! He sleeps until about 7am, or we don't go in to him until then, he just plays quietly. He naps from about 9am for an hour and about 12:30 for another 2 hours.

My daughter was born January 29, 2008 and goes to bed any where between 6.30pm and 8.00pm - depending on her afternoon nap - she generally wakes around 6.30am then goes down for a morning nap around 9.00am sleeps till 12.00/12.30 then has about a 45min - 1hr nap in the afternoon - I have 2 older girls and discovered with them that routine is essential and makes for a happy baby & Mum!

My son is almost 14 months (born 1/9/08), and he goes to bed between 7 and 8pm.  He usually sleeps until 8am.  We are planning on putting our son into a toddler bed once he really tries to climb out of the crib.  My husband caught him today with his leg on the top rail of the crib.  I am not looking forward to him climbin out though,

Jack, DOB 1/15/09, goes to bed around 7:30.  This was on the advice of sleep book that we read that suggested if we were having problems with him sleeping through the night to put him to bed earlier.  It worked for us.

I can't even imagine moving him out of his crib.  He squirms everywhere and I don't think he'd stay in it when he awoke and was fussy.  I plan on keeping him in there for quite some time!

My youngest was born 1/4/08.  He's usually in bed by 8:30.  I started this with him as a newborn (I learned from the 1st).

As for your second question.  I had my 2 1/2 year old in a big bed before he was two because he was too uncomfortable in his crib.  We put a gate outside his room so he wouldn't climb down the stairs if he woke up in the middle of the night (btw... the gate's still there)

Hope this helps!

My daughter sleeps in a toddler bed part-time. She sleeps with us at night but sleeps in the toddler bed for naps. She does well in it and has only fallen out once when sleeping and a couple of times playing during the day. That was when we first transitioned to nap time in her bed. Just teach him to come out of the bed like they come down steps(hope that makes sense, I don't know how else to describe it). We are trying to transition to night-time in the bed. She has woken up a couple of times and come to my bed. I am woken up by her climbing up in my bed.

And bedtime for us is usually between 8:30 and 9pm.

Trent was born Januray 11th and he is usually in bed by 9:00. We haven't thought about a toddler bed yet. He hasn't been trying to climb out of the crib and I'm afraid he would fall out of bed because he tosses and turns a lot when he sleeps.
