my son has a serious case of diaper rash (suprisingly his first case) and besides keeping it dry and applying desitin, any advice on how to cure it?

Thanks!

Yeast is characterized by little red dots around the main reddened area, so if he has that treat with an over the counter yeast infection cream. i would suggest that you clean it as best you can and let him run around ( or crawl ) bare as often and as long as you can so the air can get to his skin. worst thing for a rash is keeping it moist all the time, esp. yeast thrives in a moist environment. the skin needs to dry out a bit to heal even if that means a little pee on the floor!!!

my little girl had the same problem only hers wouldn't go away no matter one. i even bought that Butt Paste that was talked about on Oprah but it only made it 100x worse. so my friend told me to use cornstarch... i tried that but it was too messy to apply, then i found johnson's baby powder that is 100% cornstarch. it worked like a charm and she hasnt had a rash in about a month since i started using it.

I tried everything...desitin, butt paste, triple paste, ointment and then a $50 prescription yeast cream but nothing helped heal my daughter's rash until I used California Baby Calendula Cream along with Desitin. CB diaper rash cream also has the same ingredient. It saved Kylie's bottom after 2 months of a constant rash! My friend swears by Vagisil for a yeast diaper rash. Hope it gets better!

i would check out the yeast infection as well. it couldn't hurt.

i have not heard many good things about desitin. i work in daycare and whenever a baby has desitin their diaper rash tend to take much longer to clear up than with other products. i've seen the same thing with Parent's Choice cream.

there is the compound cream, but that has chemicals in that can actually make things worse later so your child cannot build immunities and fight off infection later. But obviously if nothing else is helping it wouldn't hurt to try to get the prescrition.

my daughter does not get rashes too often (typically only when teething pretty bad or ate something that didnt' agree with her). i use cream very rarely. whenever i do the rash gets worse. i think many babies are sensitive to the chemicals in many of the creams. what works for Magnolia is California Baby diaper cream and sometimes Beaudreaux's Butt Paste (which is quite a bit cheaper than california baby, too)

Good Luck! Hope your little one is better soon!

When my baby started teething she got terrible diaper rash. We got a prescription for a compound cream from the doctor and used that three times a day. We used Aquaphor on the other diaper changes, and it really helped! Everything went away in a few days. I would also reccommend doing an Oatmeal bath.

During the summer, my daughter also had her first (and only) bad diaper rash. This went on for a long while, and the ped. suggested using Butt or Triple Paste. They thought this was much better than Desitin (which is what I was using). When that also didn't help, they suggested I treat for a Yeast Infection. Her diaper rash went away within a couple days. I would try Triple Paste, which I still use, and if that doesn't work, call your pediatrician about a possible Yeast Infection. Good luck!
