Does anyone elses Jan 08 baby know their colors?

my son turned 3 on jan 30th his been knowing his colors shapes, counts from 1 to 10 and sings the abc's he nor recognizes the first letter of his name and thinks every word with the letter a is his name...lol I never actually had teaching time but he picks it up very well in play time. I'm so glad his starting headstart this summer. i love my smart pants:)

My son knows some of his colors and shapes. He can count to 9. Although 99 is his favorite number. We have the "Your Baby Can Read" videos but he doesnt seem interested in them until the music comes on.

My son turns 3 Jan 6. He can count to ten, knows all the letters in the alphabet by sight, (doesn't know them in order yet), knows about 10 shapes, and knows all the basic colors. He's now starting to get into complex colors like navy blue apposed to baby blue. Same as you we didn't sit down and teach it to him he picked it up through play.

My son knows his colors and some of his shapes but it has been pretty recent. He also can count to 10 and knows some of the alphabet. But we work with him on it cause he wants to go to school! He thinks if he can count he will be able to go sooner. It is pretty funny!

Yep, my daughter knows her colors, shapes, counts to 20 (then skips some numbers on her way to 30), and knows the ABC's. I was a teacher before being a SHM and have always read and talked about EVERYTHING. She also has a brother who is 6, so she has tried to keep up with him. I am not sure what is "normal", I just know what mine have done!

my 2yr knows his colour, shapes and count to 10. its thru play and learn and therez xtra help frm hs old brother (4yrs). he also goes to CC once a wk aswell.. he sounds so cute wen hs counts and sings in the car etc..

OMGosh, this is a good topic! I have loved to read the other mom's responses!!! My son turned two on Jan 12 and he is starting to identify colors, but nothing on shapes or the ABC's yet...he won't even let me try to talk to him about them! LOL! He tells me "no, mommy, be quiet". He does like to count and can count to 20 with a little help. He loves to identify cars, trucks, bus, trains and POLICE cars! He also "think" he is playing "Slug Bug" and annnounces various slug bug colors as we are out in the van driving :) He is confusing his pronouns now and calls his sister a "he, him, his" all the time. And his favorite things to say are "WHY????" and "NO, I Cain't (that is how he pronounces it) NOT do it"..I love this kid to death, he makes me crazy and makes me laugh all day!!!

my daughter turned 2 on jan 10th and knows her colours, some shapes, and even numbers to 10. I would love to say to take all the credit, but Dora has helped a lot!

i am not that fortunate. my child is now saying the colors but not showing the correct one. however, when she pickup cloths to puton,she always chose the matching colors. so i guess she has some idea but unable to say it. one of my friend's son, he was born in Feb 26th 2008 know the colors since he was around 20 mths. also shapes. he can say sentences now. he is amazing like your daughter.

i am working on colors with my son right now. he knows like 20 diff animals, makes a diff noise for every kind of transportation (bus, train, etc.) knows most shapes and all his abc's!

My daughter turned 2 on the 29th of Jan and she knows her colors, shapes, all her body parts and how to count to ten in both english and spanish. I never pushed her to do it. Just kept repeating them.

My daughter Janaya is having trouble getting the colors, she turned 2 January 6th. She does know her shapes, and some of her numbers by sight and knows some of her letters by sight. It's just every color is either red or blue.

My son turned 2 on Jan 18th ~ we have worked very hard with him!! The Dr.'s put him in a self-induced coma until he was 2 mos old.. he was also on life support until then!! The Dr.'s said he would never breathe on his own, walk, talk!! I am very proud to say he does all of the above!! He is talking even bribing us... =) Last night he said "If you let me stay up until 10 o'clock... (everything is 10 o'clock) I won't put you in time-out tomorrow" Gotta love kids! =) He can count to 14 without any help.... he knows 6 colors... (I am a BIG scrapbooker) he gets yellow wrong... he calls it Sunflower!! That's my fault!! He also knows when we are around tractors... green is John Deere.. Blue is Holland, Red is Allis.... my husband needs to get a better hobby!! LOL ~ he knows a couple shapes ~



I am just super happy everyday to hold him and watch him learn and talk, breathe, and walk!! The Dr.'s messed up he had the same thing wrong with him that my oldest son died from!!

my daughter turned 2 on 20th jan. She can count to 13, knows her colours and can have a conversation with you like an adult. My other 2 kids werent as fluent at this age.

my little girl turned two on the 17th jan, talking to your child through play helps with learning skills and also socialising with elder kids. ellie knows all her colours shapes and can count to ten very proud. i think its good that children their age should be able to tell the difference in colours ect it helps them become confident and ready for nursery, pre school etc. x we all have smarty pants of ckids x

I have twins and they are both very clever but in different ways. 1 of them has been counting to 10 since she was about 15 months and she now knows most of the colours she knows alot of animals and knows what some letters are such as E is for her name (Emmy) and A is for her sister (Amellia) etc. she sings all the time as she knows most of the nursery rhymes and songs from cebbies. Some kids are fast learners and some just have a hard time learning things. every child developes at there own pace.

My son turned 2 Jan. 5. He knows colors, shapes,alphabets and can count 1-12. He speaks English and Filipino.He can interact with 2 languages and speak clearly at the same time. He can recognized some store like Walgreens,Walmart,KFC,Best Buy,Taco Bell,Starbucks,Gas Station,Sams Club,McDonald,Wendys and of course ToysRUs. He even tell what you do if you go to those stores. He can even translate some word from English to Filipino word. Doctor said he so advanced for his age.

My Daughter Belinda Counts to 10,She knows her colours, and also can say most of her ABC's too,She was born on the 17th January 08.She love's to watch Foxtel's Cbebeies chanel 705.It is very educational and fun,But she love's to play outside too.A balance of tv and play is good for the kid's i recon!

My daughter was born in Jan 2nd.

She knows the ABC song,some Greek alphabet letters, all the basic shapes,she counts to 10 (both Greek and English), she knows many songs (both Greek and English), she plays with puzzles and thanks to Dora and Diego she has picked up some Spanish words.

As far as capabilities are concerned this month we got rid of our diapers, she drinks water from a cup (or even a glass), she takes off her clothes,she does better with the fork than the spoon and she goes down the slide with no help.

Since we are planning to send her to day care in September this summer we will focus on building up various skills that help her be as independent as possible.

I also found very helpful using "My first Brain Quest" by Chris Welles Feder. It helps build your toddlers word skills.

Hey christine.. thats is brillaint, my son also talks ALOT! but you can't make it out his hearing has been tested and he is fine just slow with the talking, but Physically he is ahead he can also dress himself poor drink in a cup even make his own sandwich.. it will be amazing to hear how your son Improves with he gets his tubes put in .. what a smart little man

Our son turned 2 Jan 23rd. He knows colors and gets mixed up from time to time, he doesn't say a lot of numbers or ABC, He has trouble getting words out, he will tell a big story but some words are not clear, but in saying that he is doing really well for only having 30 percent hearing in 1 ear and 20 percent hearing in the other he has fluid in the ear and is getting tubes put in soon, that will be really interesting on what he starts coming out with then and how much he improves. He will copy you with numbers ABC etc but you can't make out all the words, he comes out with new words each day. so for him he is doing super and we are proud of what he comes out with. Then on the other hand he is acing physical things climbing, jumping, slides, swings, bikes, puzzles, toileting himself, dressing himself from top to toe. I guess he shows his learning ability by physical.

My son turned two on Januray 8. He can count to 20, he knows his ABC, and 4 colors. He can also read words off flashcards, and he knows some sign language. When he was first born his father bought the "your baby can read" series, and it worked amazingly.

yes my son does he can't talk well but he knows his colours also my 14 month old knows his colours . my Jan baby can also count to 22 and he recognizes numbers and puts them together for instance he sees a 2 and a 9 and he says 29 .. and as of today he is starting to spell and write his own name. CEEEE AAAAAAA UMMMM heheh its not really readable if you didn't know what he is trying to do but the C and the M are nearly there and a well he aint so good at that heheeh

yes my lily knows 12 colors can count to 13 and is almost completely potty trained she only sleeps with a diaper she impresses me to see how smart she is

My baby Grace isn't talking much yet, but she can count to 20 and knows A-Z. We have flash cards with animals on them and she just picked them up one day several months ago and started saying whatever letter was on the card. She also sings the ABC's along to the music in Super Why. I do have PBS on almost all day, but she doesn't watch it much, just plays with the music in the background.



We were concerned that she wasn't talking, but the pediatrician said she is normal so long as she know 20 words. Of course there I was, trying to come up with 20 words she does know, which is impossible when you actually try to think about it, but all day long I kept remembering, and of course she knows well over 20 words.



We are working on colors and shapes, but like the numbers and letters I don't push it, she will just pick it up when she's ready. I did ask her to give me the blue crayon yesterday and she got it right, I imagine she knows much more than I think she does.

My daughter turned 2 on the 24th of Jan. She also knows her colors! She even knows gold, silver, black, gray and brown. She also does really well with her shapes. She knows her numbers 1-10. My daughter also knows most of her alphabet!! She has always been one that wants to know what things are. She always asks me "what that for Mommy?" She works on computers with her daddy and now knows what a processor for a computer looks like and where it goes! But she just now really started talking a lot. Maybe a couple months ago she would only talk if she had to and only a few words here and there. Now she talks all the time! So every kid is different!! I am just thankful for what my daughter knows and encourage her on things she may not pick up as fast!

Yay! Congrats moms! We should all be so proud of our babies and their accomplishments. My oldest Connor, turned 2 January 9th and he was 6 weeks premature. Connor knows his ABCs, recognizes his letters and numbers through 10 and some random numbers up to 20. He counts to 14 by himself, he knows his colors, his shapes (triangle, square, rectangle, circle, star). Connor was an early talker and has always had a knack for learning. I am excited for all that is to come!

My youngest son turned 2 on the 7th of Jan and he also suprised me when he has known the pink color...He can also count from 1 to 10 in Japanese co`z he is japanese citizen and even though he speaks japanese he can sing English song like ABC, Head and shoulder and etc...

Yes I am in the same boat, My daughter has known her first colors since she was 15 months old she will be 2 1/2 last day in July. She knows her shapes alphabet, numbers up to 15 saying and reading them and she can read :) I am one proud mommy too I know how you feel.

Hi my Daughter Jessica was 2 on 18th January and yes she does know her colours i think colouring in books & crayons help with this and toys with colours & shapes. She can also count to 10 we always count the stairs when we go up & down them though she does sometimes misses 9 & goes up to 12. she would sometimes come out with things that i think she might not know which is suprising butl she does watch alot of kids programmes which they pick up alot from. xx

My Son was 2 on the 8th of jan. He can say a few colors in welsh Coch, Glas Pinc (Red Blue and pink) He can count aswel, he goes un, dau, tre jump (one, tew, three, jump haha) He counts more sometimes when were walking up stairs.

Lilian turned 2 on January 4th. She knows all her colors (has since about 20 months), shapes, and most of her letters. She has also recently learned her left and right. She can count to 13, and also attempts to count by tens.

I am the same as you. I never pushed the learning. All the things she has learned, she has learned through play and observation. I think it is very important to play with your child. They learn the best when they are having fun too!!!

My daughter turned 2 on January 3rd, and she can say the alphabet, count to 10, knows her colors, and knows most shapes.We didn't prompt her, we just played with her and told her while we played. She picked it up. The reason she knows her alphabet and numbers is because we bought a floor mat that has them and sticks together like a puzzle... :)

My boy can count to 13 pretty much unprompted and knows his basic shapes. He does struggle with colours, though, and tends to guess! In general his understanding and speech is very good, though, so I'm not worried and will just keep trying to teach him!

My eldest, also Trinity :-), is a Jan 1st baby. She also knows her colours, numbers (up to 10), shapes and is now learning letters. She has always loved to learn and as soon as she masters one topic she moves on to the next and asked me to help her numerous times a day! It's lovely watching her enthusiasm as she picks up a H and says, "H for Helicopter!"

Yup, my son knows all the letters A-Z, counts up to 15, and knows all the shapes including oval, octagon, star, heart and he is just now learning his colors. I think hes been too busy noticing other things before. Hes very verbal and talks better than some 3 year olds. He gets read to 15-30 min a day and loves it but no flashcards, just watching PBS about every other day and a leapfrog DVD once every few weeks. I'm so glad to hear about other kids getting a good start in life!!!

Hi all,im new to this,hello again!!!My son is 2yrs2mths and i know its mad,can tell u every colour,shape,count to ten and say the full alphabet from start to finish,with the little song at the end and also recognise the letters by his wooden letter sorter board,i did think he was alittle ahead,but didnt really know????He has lately started speaking french as in bonjour,com en ca va,tres bien,merci,some days he freaks me out,what do u all think???Tanx :-))))))

oh yea, my daughter knows colors shapes can count to 8 and know her alphabet to p and can aaaalmost spell her name and she was born jan. 1st. i think it is really just a matter of how involved the parents are in indulging their children in their everyday sightings, and i am constantly pointing out colors and shapes and spelling out words for her and counting different things we see, along with showing opposites and things of that sort, and incorporating it all into fun conversation :] she can speak in complete sentences and knows when to put an "s" or "ing" at the end of words. its really neat, everyday its something new!

My daughter turned 2 Jan 7th .... so shes just 27 months and she knows all her colors and shapes and can count to 10 and knows A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H.... It wasnt anything we have pushed just playing with puzzels and drawing and shes picked them up and you can just ask her now and she says them and shows you.
