How much sleep does your baby get? People seem to be kinda nervous that Jack is wanting to give up his nap. He is sleeping between 10.5 and 12 hours at night. Should I fight the nap battle? If so, anyone have any good tips for helping him go to sleep?

Izzy sleeps about ten hours at night, and she'll take one or two naps during the day. If it's just one nap, then it's about two and a half hours. If it's two naps they are about an hour or hour and a half a piece. I think she's moving toward one nap a day, though.

Lila gets atleast 12 hours of sleep at night, sometimes 14. BUT...she doesnt take naps well at all, never really has. She takes a short one 25 min or so around 10:30 and the same around 3:30.

Esther still has an hour in the morning and then at least 2 hours in the afternoon, she also sleeps 12 hours a night? Should I be worried at how much she sleeps? I have been told when they are dehydrated they sleep alot but she doesnt take extra bottles when offered but she has no other symptoms of dehydration either.

My daughter sleeps 12 hours a night with one nap during the afternoon...anywhere between 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours.

Same here, Ava! Sometimes Annabelle naps, sometimes she doesn't. Her bedtime fluctuates as well as what time she gets up. I just look for signs she is tired. She has been cutting 4 top teeth over the last 2 or 3 weeks, plus she can walk now, so she is a baby on the go! I would say just look for the "naptime" signals, and if he's not cranky then he's okay. Good luck!

my Joshie is going thru some weird stages, there are days when he will take one or two naps and there are days when he doesn't!!! I think they are just going thru phases, mine is walking, teething and trying to run all at the same time...just trying to get him not to get up and come into my bed at nights!

my boy sleeps from 8p-8/9a. sometimes he takes a 30 min nap at 11a. but not always. depends on the days activites. then he will take a 1-1.5 hour nap at 3:30-4. but we are not tied to that schedule. If he's cranky- I put he down. Sometimes he just needs quiettime if the day has been busy and doesn't even go to sleep. But he's recharged and so am I.

My son stopped sleeping at all during the day at 6 weeks! (he'd have a bit of a nap in the car but not a real sleep) He was sleeping 7pm to 7am at the time and not waking up at all. Now he's 1yo he has a nap in the day, but is awake every hour or so during the night for breastmilk. Children are unique. my boy will sleep during the day after a breastfeed, but from 5 moths to 9 months only slept during the day when i was at work after his dad gave him a bottle.

Oh Natosha, that sounds dreamy.  I think that maybe Sarah hit on the head.  Two days in a row now, he has went down around 2:30.  Maybe he was just wanted it a bit later.  He still does fall asleep in the car, but I think that is more conditioning than actual tiredness.  We travel often, as all of our family lives over 3 hours away from us.  We also live in the burbs so everything is sprawled out and trips usually take a minimum of 15 minutes to get somewhere.

Quoting Rochelle:

Most kids if they are in chidcare give up there nap by age 1. it is not a bad thing. A child only needs 10-12 hours of sleep a day. So if he is doing that at night he is fine. don't fight it

I wouldn't say that "most" kids give up their nap this early, but some do.  If your child is happy and can make it through a 12 hour day already, then you are lucky!  Usually the nap gets later at this age, so if he won't nap at his usual time, try a half hour later.  Does he sleep through the night?  Does he show signs of being over tired (cranky, zoned out, night wakings before midnight)?  Does he fall asleep in the car?

Leah still naps once a day and recently just dropped from 2 naps to 1.  If she gets 12 hours sleep at night, she only naps 1hour 15 minutes, but if she gets less, like 10.5 hours, she naps for over 2.5 hours.  I read that the average 1 year old needs 13-14 hours of sleep a day, some need more, and some need less.

HTH!

I am glad to hear you ladies saying this.  They acted like I was crazy at playgroup today.  Of course, after I posted, he decided that he was going to take a nap.  I know that I need a better nap time routine, but our daily schedule changes and I don't really want to give that up.  I like not being tied to the house at certain times in the afternoon.

hiya josh only has 5-10 mins during the day sobdont think they can count as naps but will sleep between 10.5 and 12 at night i personally think that if they r happy(and u r )during the day with out naps then go with the flow.
