This is one of the hardest things I have had to cope with - as the crying absolutely breaks my heart. But you have to be firm and your child needs to learn that when he is being denied something you won't give in, because it will lead to him/her always wanting things. Sorry - but tough love is the order of the day!

Stay calm but stay firm in your voice... the reason they tend to cry is because its their way of working you till you give them their way. Calmly and firmly tell them they cannot always get their way and if they do not stop crying and acting the way they are they will go into time out... thats what I do with my son and the only time he does it now is if he REALLY wans it, and I tell him no that we cannot get it and if he doesnt stop he will go into time out... 99% of the time he stops.

Just remain firm and calm. He has to learn his boundaries. He is testing them with you. Take comfort in knowing that we are going through the same things.
