My little guy goes to be between 10:30 and 11:00pm every night and wakes up at 8:00am every morning. He always has a 3 hour nap during the day. It's really nice to spend quality time with him since i work all day and wouldn't get to see him much if he went to bed earlier.

I believe AAp recommends 16 months olds get 14 hours of sleep a day between nighttime and naps. They should be on a schedule that works for you. I have friends that have to be at work early and the kids are dropped of at daycare at 7:30 so they go to bed at 7:30 and get a 2 hour afternoon nap. my son goes to bed at 8:30 and wakes up at 8 and naps between 1 and 3:30. I'm a SAHM so that works for me. I don't think there is any right time or wrong time as long as it fits in with your schedule as long as they are getting close to the recommended time for the day in.

My almost 16 month old son goes to bed between 8:30-9:30 every night and sleeps 11 to 12 hours a night. He is down to one 2-3 hour nap a day. I think it's what works best for each individual baby :-)

Wow, hard to believe everyone's 16 month olds are going to bed at what seems so early! lol But I guess it is what works for each person's schedule's. My husband and I are both second shifters and just as a norm, stay up late and get up "late" Evan had been going to bed after midnight for almost the first year of his life, because I worked till 11pm and my husband worked third. Now I'm on leave and my husband is on second, so, Evan is finally going to bed before 11pm, usually. He used to get up around noon, but now its around 9:30. and then takes his nap around 2-3pm

Ok, at 16 mo my daughter went to bed at 4:30pm. for the night, and only woke up twice to bf. now she is almost 3 and she prefers no nap and goes to bed at 5pm and sleeps until 7am. there is no "too early". only "just right"for your child.

I've had 3 daughters and none of them have ever gone to bed or slept on the same schedule. Our oldest was not and never has been a sleeper. She would stay up late and get up early and stopped taking naps at an early age. Our second was very content to sleep more regular hours and our third (now 16 months) sleeps all the time. She is awesome. Goes to bed around 7:30 or 8 and gets up around 9 and then takes a long nap. During growth spurts they always sleep a little longer. In the days my husband worked for a company that kept him out later, I kept the babies up later so they could spend time with him when he got home. Now that we own our own company and he's home more, we put them to bed earlier. Babies are so adaptive to their home environment. Blessings on your little one.

My daughter gets 1 nap during the day that lasts about 2 hours and then we get ready for bed at 8pm and she is usually out by 8:30pm. She used to go down at 7:30pm but lately she is going down by 8:30pm. If he is going down at 7pm and sleeping thru the night feel blessed. You can get stuff done at night. :)

I am glad to read your post. Hudson may go to bed between 9-9:30 but we are usually sitting down together with his milk closer to 930 and he is in bed by 10. I won't say he doesn't have those day when he sleeps late, but typically he gets up around 7. He naps for about 2 hours at school after lunch. I worry when I hear other speak of their early bedtimes and it would help me get more done if he did....but when he goes down early, he treats it like a nap and stays up late!

I think lots of people have to put their babies to bed early in order to have them get up and be ready to go to daycare (if the parents work) at an early hour. Those parents probably have been establishing the 7pm bedtime for many months or even a year or longer.

Others, like our family, like a later bedtime. Our Eddie goes to bed around 1015pm each night and gets up at 1030am. I am a SAHM who is a troubled sleeper, so I can't get up at 6am, 7am, even 8am, without it being a big problem for me. Also this later bedtime allows my husband to spend time with the boy at night -- husband gets home close to 7pm and then has to prepare for next day of work and is typically not able to focus on baby until 8pm or so. So the two of them play together for 90 minutes or so before we start getting baby ready for bed.

Agreeing completely with those who said it's "whatever works for you". I do believe it's not best to "wait til they crash" -- I've seen Supernanny enough to know that a routine is key in preventing future sleep problems.

Yeah my son goes to sleep at 6:00pm and if I keep him up later than that it seems like he gets knocked all out of whack and wakes up 1-2 times a night. But if I make sure that he is in bed at 6 then he sleeps better and usually wakes up at 7am.

As long as he is sleeping through the night just fine. My kids share a room until the 3rd bedroom is done being re-modeled. My boys go to bed at 8, and if I put her to bed first, the boys will wake her, and if they all go to bed at once, she'd keep them awake yelling at them. lol So she goes usually at 15 till 9-9:30 or so. But sleeps until 8:30-9:30 am. And she takes two naps a day. Usually a 3 hr one and a 2 hr one. Just like her momma....LOVES her sleep! lol

My daughter who is almost 17 months goes to bed between 7:30 and 9 it all depends.. When my husband is home we let her stay up later because i'm not as exhausted but when he works nights (4 days a week) she's in bed no later then 8:15 and usually takes about 15-20 mins to fall asleep and she wakes up between 8:30 and 9.. and still takes 2 naps during the day! I just think when they are ready for bed put them down!

[deleted account]

Huh...I wish my son went to bed so early. He's a daddy's boy and my husband works until 10 p.m. most nights. Needless to say my son won't go to bed anywhere from 10:30-11:30 p.m. and sleeps in until about 8 or 9 in the morning. I tried putting him to bed sooner and he basically took a nap and was up until 1 or 2 in the morning. I say go with it if that's what he wants and he is still able to sleep all night.

I am also surprised at the 6-7 times! I'm jealous too. I would love it if she went down by 9PM....but she typically goes down between 10-10:30PM - however she fights it so much and is very stubborn. There are days every week when she doesn't go until 11 or 11:30PM. She is in daycare 3 days per week for 4.5 hours....on those days she naps between 12 and 1PM. But when she is home with me she skips that nap. She also taps a nap at around 4 or 5PM - I know that's why she doesn't go to bed earlier. Also I believe it has something do to with the Mom and when you were pregnant. I am a night owl and usually never go to bed before midnight. When she was born she didn't to sleep until about midnight and slept 12 hrs through the night. She doesn't sleep 12 hrs anymore. No matter when she goes to bed she typically wakes up at 7:45AM

My 16 month old goes to bed around 7:30. Well, that's when we put him in his crib, but sometimes he's playing with his stuffed animals a little and doesn't fall asleep until closer to 8. He's usually up at 6 am. I envy those of you whose children will sleep 12+hours.

My daughter goes down between 7 and 10. I know that sounds like a wide scale... But if she goes down so late, its because we had an event (like church or something) and had to keep her up. Also her Mimi and Papa like to keep her up to play :o). But whatever time she does decide to go to bed, she always sleeps a solid 12hrs. So I tend to enjoy when she goes down later, because then I get to sleep in until 10am

Maybe your baby naps less during the day making your son tired at an earlier hour at night. For us it's no use putting our son to bed earlier, since he will also wake up earlier. He goes to bed at 8pm and sleeps till 6:30am if we're lucky!

My 16 month old goes to bed around 7 and sleeps until 5- 5:30. He takes two naps a day, usually 30 minutes each. He normally gets 11:30 hs- 12:30 hs of sleep total. (day+night). If I put him to bed later, that means he will sleep less because no matter what, he's awake around 5 or 6.

It all depends if my daughter has taken a nap that day. Generally she'll take a nap for 2-3 1/2hrs and then I can get her to bed at 8:30pm. If she hasn't taken a nap she goes to bed between 7-7:30pm.

7pm is not too early. From the experience of alot of my friends and family, 7pm is a very standard bedtime. I usually aim for that with my 2 1/2 year old and my 15month old. It doesn't always happen, but they know that is bed time. My 15 month old usually sleeps until 8am and has a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon after lunch. If I put them to bed later for what ever reason they don't sleep any later the next day to compensate, in fact they probably get up earlier.

Jazmyn has always gone to sleep and 7.30. At times I have brought it forward, if she is tired or sick, but she never sleeps as long. Same thing is she goes to sleep later, she still wakes up earlier. We start the whole bedtime routine at 6.30 - starting with nappy off time, shower, cup of warm milk and story (which she has figured out lasts longer if she gets mum to read it and then dad)! She only has one sleep in the day now and that has been getting later and later, its not until about 2pm now and she usually sleeps 2 hours. I dont think 7 oclock is too early. Especially if its what works best for you and you bub!

I guess our schedule is a little different. Both my 16 month old and my 3 year old go to bed at 9:00 and wake up about 8 to 9 in the morning. They both only take one nap which is about 2-3 hours long. There is no way I could have my kids in bed at & By the time we pick the boys up from the sitters, get home, eat dinner, take baths, and play a little, it's very close to 9. I cannot imagine trying to get them to bed any earlier!

I don't think any time is too early if it works for your baby and your family! If he is tired what are you to do other than put him to bed? If you try to force him to stay awake then I think you'll have a very cranky baby on your hands.
My daughter has always been a late night bedtime baby. It used to be around 10PM. And she would sleep until 7:30 or so when I would wake her on week days and then later on the weekends. Now she tends to get sleepy around 9:30 or sometimes even earlier. But I pretty much let her tell me when she is ready. Unless I am ready for her to go to bed and I am lucky enough that if I put her to bed she will amuse herself until she falls asleep. She also still takes 2 naps a day. It's her little routine.
I don't believe that there could be a right and wrong time for bed. It's all about what works for your child. So I wouldn't worry so much... :-)

At 12 months my emma went to bed at 8pm but that was the past.. Now at 16 months she is going to bed later at like 9:30p. She used to go to not get up as much through the night but now it is every night almost that she does get up.. She is up at 7 am and going ans going and going. She takes one nap and the is at 12.. She is a very outdoors child. I try to play her out as much as I can for her to sleep all through the night but it seems that she is just used to getting up in the middle of the night.I am 99.9% sure that the reason she is getting up is that I work a second shift job some nights and I pick her up at her grams around 1 and she get disturbed. so I know why she is I just wish I got more sleep since baby 2 will be here very soon.

My son's 16 month old. Has always gone to bed 6pm and 7pm, but lately only around 7pm and 8pm. He wakes up between 5am and 6am. When he looks tired, I ask if he wants to go do-do, and if he does, he picks up his dummy and sleeping blankie and walks to his room, but if not, he'll run away from me! If your child's tired by 7pm, then put him to bed then. There's nothing wrong with that time:)

My son goes to bed around 7-7:30pm and will sleep for 12-14 hours. On the same note on the weekends if we stay out a little late and put him to bed by 10 or 11 then he still sleeps the 12-14 hours from when we put him down. He also takes two-1 to 1 1/2 hour naps each day. I believe in putting them down when they decide, as long as it's after the last nap of the day so it doesn't just turn into a nap and then up all night!!

My son goes to bed at 7, sometimes 7:30. Every once in a while he will stay up til 8, but that's only when we go out and don't get home on time. He starts getting super grumpy around 6:45, so we have quiet time with a book on my lap then go to bed and he never fusses. He will even go and stand in front of his crib!
