I cant believe my baby is about to turn 1 next month. It has been a long and bumpy road. My little 4 lb 13 oz premie is now a very healthy 23 lb munchkin! Any other first time moms out there who think this year has gone by too quickly?!??!

If anyone get the Pampers Village in the mail, they have a GREAT article about the 1st birthday. Here are the main points:

Keep it small: may be too overwhelming or frighten your baby
Keep it short: two hrs is probably the longest a baby can go without getting too tired
Save the themes for later: at 12 months, the baby will not understand a theme, but can still come up with something creative
Make Party location baby friendly & keep alot of toys on hand:
Make it fun for adults: have adult games such as "draw your baby in 30 seconds" and the winner can babysit the birthday baby lol
Record Memories : PICTURES OF COURSE
And of course dont forget presents: Sounds, Flashy, light up, toys to push etc

Hope this helps.!!!!

I got that one too, and it ABSOLUTEY TRUE! Violet is my 2nd, and I learned that the hard way. It's really tempting to go all out, especially if it's your first LO, but this is some REALLY GOOD advice!

She is so much bigger than she used to be but is still so incredibly tiny. Shes not walking yet but sure is trying and i cant imagine her walking shes so tiny its gonna be so cute. We are doing a polka dot theme for her birthday I CANT WAIT

Definitely too fast, seems like only 5 minutes ago I was holding my tiny newborn in my arms and now next week he'll be 1. He's my last baby and I wanted the time to go slow but he's growing up at his own pace, so wouldn't want to hold him back.

I find myself chuckling now whenever I hear someone say :They grow up fast!. It's not until you are a parent that you realize just how fast they grow! I have a new year's baby as well. It is hard to believe that one year from now we were anxiously awaiting her appearance...Happy birthday to our Jan. babies!

I know how you feel too. My twins were preemies, born at 33.6 weeks and were 4lb9oz and 4lb11oz. I can still remember the exact place that I would park everyday to see the twins in the NICU. Now the twins have caught up in weight and are all over the place!

HI Michelle, I am so excited to find another Kairi in the world with the same spelling. She just turned 2 (dec 4) and my youngest Noah will be 1 on January 20. sort of a pointless reply but was too excited not to say something. This year has gone way too quick I can't believe I have to organise my baby's 1st birthday

OMG has it ever....sometimes i think of how i wish it would slow down a little, but i also think of the hard times...one after another...and how glad i am to have finally gotten thru those...for now at least!makes you realise,no matter how tough things seem and even if you can't see that light at the end of the tunnel, if you just hang on that little bit longer things will eventually start to shine. :) my little one turns 1 on 23/01...she was 6 1/2 wks prem and just 4lb so for all those premi mums out there....congrats,espec if you too were a first timer.i remember finally leaving the hospital and the mid wife saying,in the most supportive way mind you,"not only are you a first time mum,but your also a mum of a premi....some others just wont comprehend the difficulty"...so my heart is with you all

Omg! Yes! I find myself saying "when he was a baby..." as if he's this grown person already when I reflect on things he used to do (or couldn't do). I miss that little boy that used to sound like a cat when he cried, and needed to be burped after each meal, and often smelled like baby spit up,...But, there are plenty of other things to appreciate about him now and I'm sure as he gets older. Congratulations on your baby's healthy development!

I agree, I had a five pound preemie who is now also 23lbs. But it just doesn't feel like in a few days I will have a toddler. It went so fast, my fiance makes fun of me, but I have been crying for the last week. My daughter is so independent now, I can't even hold her. She didn't stay little long enough. But I guess it's all a part of motherhood.

my little boy looks like a completely different person to what he first did in those early months.
and he has his own cheeky little personality and likes and dislikes now.
its amazing how much he's changed in almost 11months.

I am trying to plan a Peter Rabbit themed 1st birthday party (yes, I know someone said avoid themes but it's more about preserving the memory for yrs to come) for my son's birthday in January. I'm having a hard time finding paper plates, decor, etc. in that theme. I've googled, Yahooed, Ebayed, Amazoned, and Craigslisted to no avail. My son's room is decorated in PR, his baby book is PR, and he was PR for HAlloween and I'd love to continue the theme. Target used to have a PR 1st birthday party pack but it's no longer available. Any ideas?

I can't believe how fast the year has flown, my little girl will be 1 on the 20th. The first few months she was so clliky and new it seemed like she'd be a baby forever and now she's so big and independant! but still my little lap princess...her first and still favorite word is 'Up".:P

This year has definitely flashed by in lightening speed. I can't believe that my little newborn is now almost a toddler. I'm excited about what's to come. I've been breastfeeding my daughter from day 1 so I'm also looking forward to the transition of weaning as well.

I'm so happy for you that your baby has progressed so well. From 4 lbs to 23 lbs that's incredilbe.

YES YES YES it is totally unbelievable how fast the year has gone! My daughter will be a year old on Jan. 16th. She began walking the day before Thanksgiving, and she is just a little Miss Independent sometimes! I can't believe that the first year has flown by so fast . . . it is amazing how she is growing and changing and becoming her own little person. It is hard to think back to life with just my husband and I --- we are so happy to have Keira in our lives and can't imagine it without her. I love to see how much she has grown and to see how she is always learning, but at the same time it is sad knowing that she'll never be this little again *getting choked up* I will admit that I hate that my personality makes me always feel the need to be doing something - there is always something to be done - straightening up, cleaning something, ect - but I have to force myself to just BE with my baby girl and watch her as she is growing up right before my eyes. I hate that I have to go to work 5 days a week, but am thankful that I get the time off that I do being a teacher. This year sure has gone fast . . . (and at least another year will have to go by before we think about #2!)

Yeah. I say everyday I can't believe how fast this year has gone. Anastayja will be 1 on January 21st. I look at her everyday and she does something new just about everyday. Have any of you picked a theme for your baby's 1st birthday? I picked Minnie Mouse for her birthday. Well it's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse but I chose Minnie for most of the stuff because all the actual clubhouse stuff is aimed towards a boy in my opinion but she likes the show alot.
