Any ideas on whats a good sippy cup and whats a good age?

I started my son on a sippy cup as soon as he started eating rice cereal at 4 months. I don't pay attention to the brand but he likes the ones with the soft nipple like mouth spout. I tried the hard plastic spout ones and don't like them...with the no spill attachment it is too hard for him to get a drink, and with out it he just spills all over. I do also like the idea of detachable handles, makes it easier for him to grab at first, and when he gets older, he can practice holding the cup like a big boy (or girl) cup. Half the time he is more interested in using the cup as something to teeth on. I will show him how to get a drink, then let him explore it himself. I was told it is better to not use sippy cups, and just give them a real cup so they learn how to drink faster, but I am not willing to do that unless I can help him hold it...lol

I also use the sippy cups with the soft mouthnn piece and handles. I introduced my daughter to the sippy cup at 6 months. At first, she thought it was another toy to throw on the floor, but once she got the hang of it she loves it!

I like the Nuby cup with the soft mouth piece. my son started at 5 months, he's 7 1/2 mos now but still "just practices" with it on occasion. he has a good grip and brings it to his mouth but hasn't yet mastered the drinking part.

We bought our son the Dr Browns sippy cup, it's kinda big but he has no problem with it. It has detachable handles too! I think we started giving it to him at 5 months, but I know of people whop did it earlier with success. Good luck!
