my son was due on the 8th april 09. he was born 17th Jan 09 weighing 2lbs 6! so scarey! he was in neo-natal care for 6weeks. do you think if i have anymore children they will also be this prematuer? i dont think i could go through that again!

Hi Becky- my daughter was born at 31weeks, 6days which is about 2months early. Her due date was Mach 14th and I had her January 16th. She weighted in at 4lbs. 4oz. I was in the hospital 16 days before they took her, so they gave me a shot to help her lungs mature. She spent 3weeks in the NICU with barely any problems. They had her on a the nasal air for the first day or so and under the lights for belly Ruben once. She is know 6month's and doing everything a 6month's old would be doing. She weight's 15lbs 4oz and is just full of life. I wonder my self if I was to have another child would this happen again and if so could I go thru what I went thru with her. I have friends in my mothers group that had her 1st at 27 weeks and the twins were 5 days early so it does not always happen. Having a child pre-mature child definitely will so you how strong you are to be dealing with what occurs in a preemie.

Nope...not unless you wentnin to labour for a medical reason.. My friend had her 1st 10 weeks early, her 2rd was 2 weeks late and her 3rd 5 days late xx

Hi Becky - My son was actually born 6 1/2 weeks early; on January 9th - he was due February 23rd; he was born at 4lbs and in the NICU for 9 days - I can't imagine 6 weeks....It is very hard and emotional - I kept wandering why; I have asked the doctor about having another baby and what they tell me is I would be considered a high risk pregnancy and they would monitor multiple things closely; but unfortunetly, premature babies can happen at anytime and they don't always know the cause of it; the next baby could be no issue at all.
