hello to all the mom's that have January babies. I am starting to potty train my daughter. I didn't start until about 2 yrs with my son. It took him awhile but during that time I had my daughter and ended up in the hospital...so we had to stop.
I was just wondering if anyone has thought about it. I heard that some babies are potty trained by age 2. ahhhh to save money on diapers.

nope I havent started yet. I've sat her on the potty and she didnt like it at all! So I'll wait. I think if you start too soon it takes longer sometimes. She's my 4th and last so I'm not rushing anything :)

not sure wondered about starting myself, i was told if she can stay dry for upto 2 hours then she has slight control over her bladder, but if every nappy is wet then she may not be ready. the age ranges between 2-3

We've had a potty chair for a while and I just knew I was going to take it slow. I started taking my daughter into the bathroom with me when she started walking and now at 18months she's showing me that she is ready. Our only problem is after she uses the potty she throws a fit and doesnt want her diaper put back on. I think we're going to try pullups in the next few days, Im just trying to get passed my concerns that im pushing her too hard.

First and foremost, I think it's important to step away from forums such as this because I often find that instead of finding useful or helpful information it turns into a competition of sorts over bragging rights (e.g. my child is so extraordinary that he/she was potty trained by age one and speaking 200 words in complete sentences! Hey everyone, look at ME!!!) It's important to remember that this is about your CHILD not YOU or perceptions of you as a parent. Every child is different and these differences should be celebrated not trotted out in some sort of parental competition. With that said, it's important to remember that there will be signs that your child is physically AND mentally ready for potty training. Physically speaking, older than 20 months; should be able to sit, stand, and walk with ease; has regular bowel movements; and will stay dry around three hours. Mentally, your child should be able to talk and say "I need to pee/poop"; has an interest in others going to the bathroom; notices and tells you when the diaper is dirty; stops what they are doing to poop in their diaper (sometimes squatting); will tell you when they are peeing in their diaper; and will have enthusiasm about sitting on the potty, flushing the toilet; and trying on underpants. The important thing here is not to rush to fit YOUR schedule or desire (your child will easily pick up on this anxiety and regression often occurs). Good luck.

My daughter is showing signs she is ready she always tells me when she has a dirty nappy and last week she even told me before she had done it. I do sit her on the potty but she has never done anything on it as yet. The problem I have is she is still learning to walk so I think it is best to wait until she has mastered that. Like everyone I cant wait to save some money!!.

My 18 month old is very interested! She wants to be on the potty - but I haven't actually tried - maybe I will - I like what you are all saying about it! My three year old, however, will not train and is not interested. Maybe if her baby sister tries, she will too - two out of diapers is better than one!

No not yet with Timothy being two months early I haven't started to train him as of yet. He is quite curious when his daddy goes.

No, I know it's way too early for my son, plus boys bladders aren't developed enough to start this early, but girls might be different. I'm not going to worry about it or even try till he's older than 2.

I actually started my daughter not long after her first birthday with the hopes of her being trained at age 2. I never pressured her and just put her on before she went to bed, when she wakes up, and not long after she eats. She tells me stinky when she has to go number 2 and will use the pot everytime she is put on it. She even knows how to wipe. The trick is to let her watch you. Now I'm going to be more aggressive about her potty training so she can be completely trained in the next couple of months....like you I would love to save money on diapers

My son is 2 yrs 4months old and he is potty training right now. My daughter is 18 months. I am trying to get her to sit on the potty and get a feel for it. Each kid is different. Your daughter just might be ready.

We are just now starting to get signs from our 18 monther. He can point to his dirty diaper and loves to come into the bathroom with us. He has not started yet because we live overseas and are awaiting a potty chair to come in the mail, but when it gets here we will be starting soon.

i bought a potty chair a long time ago. but no luck. now she seems ready, showing signs and what not. but shes also pooped on my floor twice. :) and i'd like to start the 3 day thing, but shes had slight diarrhea since the beginning of july... the doctor said it was okay. could just be the heat. she does take in enough liquids though. but i'm afraid to start if she wont be able to make it to the potty.

My 18 months son tells me every morning that he needs to potty and he also goes near the potty. However, when i put him on the potty he just sits down!!! These last two weeks he also started to take off his nappy when its time to poo. I am trying every morning but till now to no avail.

I'm thinking about potty training my daughter. She has the hints that she is ready. My other two kids I waited. I'm really trying to decide how I'm going to start her. Pull up's are almost like diapers. I'm thinking I'm going to get her big girl panties through the day then nap and bedtime diapers. Until she realizes the difference. The go from there if she does good. Good luck starting yours.

We have started the potty training circus with out son, Gage. He started pulling at his diaper and saying 'ewy' when he was wet or poopy. We got some pull-ups and he has progressed very well for not being 18 months yet (Almost). I have not really pushed him too hard yet, as I do not want to hinder the progress that he has made. He tells me sometimes that he need to potty, but I mostly try to get him to the potty every hour. However, we have started every half hour because we let him pick out his 'big boy underwear'. He seems to not like the feeling of the underwear being wet or poopy. My parents said that my brother and I were both potty trained around 18 months. I can not wait until all I have to do is laundry... no more buying diapers!! WOOT! God Bless! Good luck with the potty training also!

We introduced the potty to my son when he turned one, We would ask him potty? Need to potty? Even if he didn't we would take him down sit him on the potty while mommy or daddy went so he would get the idea. Now we have gotten to the point that Preston will grab the front of his diaper and say deedee. Which means he needs to pee. Yesterday he used his potty five times and the last time he pooped for the first time! So proud of him!! I am really hoping to be potty trained by two.

My daughter is in daycare and they have her sit on the potty at every diaper change, even is she does not use it. She is not potty trained but we are starting to get her use to a toilet.

Well, I have the potty and refuse to buy pull-ups. Have not gotten training panties yet, but they are on the way. She is saying wet, pee pee, stank stank, so I think she is ready to start. She actually has used the potty a few times, but nothing continually. I actually am late with her starting to potty train, my other girls were using the potty by now. But I know of course every child is different. I can also contribute this to the fact that there are 8 years between my last two children.

Yeah, saving money would be great! I actually just started to think about this because my son is showing signs of wanting to start. I had heard that when they start taking the diaper off it's a sign. There have been three mornings in particular that he has is diaper off but hasn't gone in the crib. So, we are working on buying the potty to see how it goes. I just don't know exactly how to go about it (he is our first).
I know he should be following daddy in to see how its done, and he should get used to the potty being in there. I was curious if you could tell us anything different?
I know I didn't help much in this, but hoping we could try to help each other.

Yes my daughter is potty trained. We just started July 10th. She only has accidents at night if we don't wake her up. Other than that she is wearing underwear and tells us when she has to go. We did the 3 day potty training where you put them in underwear and keep bringing them to the potty when they go (lots of cleaning up at first). But by the third day she was going in her potty and only had 3 accidents. You can look up the method online as well. Good Luck :)

I can't imagine my son being ready yet, but I have heard that girls learn sooner and they generally advance more quickly than boys anyway so if u think she gets the concept, can't hurt to try!
