My son is a pretty good army crawler (on his tummy) but will not get up on all 4's and crawl. Anyone else out there with a little one doing this? It is normal right? Someone calm my crazies!

So if this makes you girls feel any better, my son just turned 10 months old and he's still not crawling!! He will army crawl, but still relies on my hands for leverage. He does scoot back every now and again but hasn't once gotten on all fours. My sister has 3 boys and ALL 3 boys didn't start crawling until 12 mos. and they didn't start walking until 18 months. So I'm thinking slow-to-crawl and slow-to-walk could be in the genes!! Luckily they are all very bright. The oldest who is 6 years old can do 3rd grade division and beats my husband at chess ALL the time!! LOL.

Hi, my first baby was like yours. He won't properly crawl until he reaches nearly 1 yr old. And the second one, he only started to properly crawl when he was 8 1/2, and properly sit on the floor these few days. I guess he's just plain lazy LOL.

Mine is the same. He just turned 9 months and is great at army crawling. He gets up on his knees sometimes and rocks back and forth, but slides onto his tummy when he tries to move on his knees. I'm not worried about it.

Same here.. Ashlyn army crawls and is FAST. She will sometimes get up on fours and rock, but then goes back to her tummy to army scoot as we call it =)

Mine is! and it's driving me crazy!!! people keep telling me enjoy it now because when he is up on all fours he's going to be zooming. but i want him to crawl. not this scooting around with his tummy dragging. He's just barely getting up on his knees (by accident) and rocking. he plops on his tummy again after. i want him to see another baby crawl but i can't find any around here that are his age.

My baby just turned 9 months old and he rolls everywhere!! hahahaha!! but I've read that anything is normal as long as they are mobil... because that is what counts! It doesn't really matter how they get somewhere, as long as they get there.

My son is 9 months old and doesn't even try to crawl yet. So I would be so pleased to see him army crawl! But then again my 2 yr old never crawled, he walked at 10 months instead! So every baby does their own thing their own way and it's ok.

hello! I'm new here, but I had the same worries about my almost 9 month old doing the same thing. I found this and now I feel ok about it!

Same here. My son twists both feet together and tries to slither across the floor but ends up going backwards. There's nothing to be concerned about because just him trying shows me that nothing is wrong. He'll get it.

I've read that crawling is such an unnecessary step of "normal" development that most doctors don't even check for it during well-baby visits. I know my little man is a CHAMPION army-crawler, but REFUSES to regular crawl...I figure he'll be walking soon anyways, so no worries :)

My boy army crawled up until he was 9 1/2 months old. And then, all of a sudden, he figured out how to do the regular crawl. But, I heard that some kids don't ever do regular crawls. They just go straight from army crawl to standing/walking. So, I think it's ok. If anything, enjoy that the little bugger is mopping the floor for you!

I wouldnt worry my son is 9 months, just started crawling, in one week he went to all of a sudden crawling like he has been doing it all along and then he discovered right away how to pull himself up and walk along the wall. I was worried cause he hadnt started crawling yet but we were getting his pics done and he wanted the bolt in the middle of the floor holding the background down and went for it very first time, as soon as he see's something he wants bad enough he will go for it and then you will wish he would just sit still a moment lol

I know what you mean. My son is 9mths now and all he does is army crawl and I've talked to other moms and most of the one that i talked to said that their's went from army crawling to walking. But every baby is different not all actually learn to crawl on all four.
