Do I still need to burp my baby?

My little guy will be 7 mths early next wk. I typically burp him one to two times when he's being fed his 6 oz of formula. I noticed it's getting tougher to get a burp out of him. He used to spit up a bit so that's why I've continued up til now, but am wondering if I need to anymore. Do you still burp your babies? He's not able to sit up on his own quite yet but he spends most of his time on his tummy.

I do not burp my 7 month old anymore. I actually stopped about a month ago. He burps himself. If i notice he is having discomfort then i might decide too. But he seems to be doing just fine.

My daughter is 7 months and a week too - I don't concentrate on burping her - but I do hold her upright after her feedings and if she burps then good, if not, I don't worry.

My boy is 7 months one week, I still burp him, he has been able to sit up for 2 months now but still needs help with burping. He gets lower wind pain at times so I usually rock his stomach on my knee to get the air bubble to move then bounce him on my knee, he will either burp or fart after this. Other times I sit him up straight after a feed and he burps straight away, you could also try sitting him up every 3 minutes when your milk feeding him then he will learn what u are trying to do

Thanks for all your replies. I guess I'll continue to burp him maybe just once/bottle feeding until he has been on solids longer. He barely takes any solids and hates them. He gets distracted easily and would rather suck on his tray than eat his cereal or pureed peas. Hopefully that will change soon and we can lower the formula soon and increase the solids and do away w/the burping.

I agree.....I stopped once I otices that she was doing it on her own. IF I don't hear her burp on her own after a bottle then I will try to help her out!

I don't ever burp my little one any more either. she just turned 7 months old. She burps on her own now. She eats 3 meals a day and only drinks about 4 or 5 bottles. I guess I stopped when she started eating more food and I noticed the burps coming up on their own. If he seems to need I'd ay go for it, if not, you can probably stop now.

Babies start to burp on their own between 6 months to a year. As long as hes not having any problems I wouldnt do it anymore.

i do but only because he suffers from a lot of trapped wind. a lot of the time he manages to get it up himself though.

but i have to give him gripe water quite a lot.
