Hello everyone! My daughter is now 12 lbs. and is 15 weeks old. She is not sleeping through the night. I was wondering if other January babies have similar sleeping patterns. My daughter usually sleeps for a 4- 4 1/2 hour stretch and then is ready to eat around 3-3:30a.m. After I feed her she usually goes back to sleep for 3 more hours. My doctor said she should be sleeping for at least 6 hours at a time. Is your baby sleeping through the night and if so how many hours?

My daughter was born January 1st. I was given a book called Baby Wise, it talks about keeping a schedule, mine was 5am, 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm, 8pm, 11pm, 2am, I tried to stick as close to these times as possible everyday, she would eat then we would play or be up a little while and then I would put her down for a nap. I began dropping the 2am, and then the 5am, and then the 11pm, by following this routine my daughter now sleeps from 9pm to 9am at 3.5 months(17 weeks), she eats 5-6oz now. (In the middle of the night feedings, keep the lights down, minimal talking, let her know it's night time, then in the morning make it brighter, I always dim the lights the closer it gets to bed time, then bath, then bottle, swaddle her and down for bed. the better the day time sleep and routine the better they sleep at night, is what I have come to find out. I then struggled with my daughter not wanting to take naps during the day because she slept so much at night. But she now takes 2 1-1.5 hour naps a day, I had to just put her down and let her cry a bit and keep going in and checking on her, some days she goes down fine and some days she fights it. Every baby is different, but I really swear by this book.

Hey. My son is around the same age and he is sleeping 9-11hrs a night. How do you feed your daughter? I started feeding my son cereal and he sleeps so much better now I believe because he is full and content at bedtime. When I was nursing he didn't sleep past 4 hrs at a time.....

Hiya my son was born 11th jan and has a feed about 8ish then sleeps till 1ish but after that he only sleeps for 3-4 hours and that continues all day, he is also breastfed and i think its cause its digested so quickly. My 4 year old didnt start sleeping through the night until he was nearly two he would wake up once in the nite everynte not sure why stopped breastfeeding him when he was 9 months old. I think they just get into the routine of waking for feeds, i was also told to try giving water instead of milk when my first child was bout 6 months but it didnt work he found it really hard to settle afterwards.

Hi my boy was born Jan 1 and he's been sleeping for 6- 8 hours at a time

since he was 2 months old. A few days after we brought him home from the

hospital he was sleeping 5 hours at a time occasionally. During the day though

he'll only sleep for 20 - 30 minutes at a time.

My daughter (born Jan 23) goes to bed around 8 or 8:30p and sleeps until 2a. You could set a clock by her. I change her, feed her (only about 3 oz) and she goes right back to sleep until about 5 or 5:30a. Sometimes she is wide awake then and sometimes I can get her to go back to sleep for a little while. She eats about 6-8 oz before bed and weighs about 14 lbs.

My babe was born Jan 30, he is 12 weeks and weighs 18lbs and some ounces. He is still bf and has been sleeping from about 11:30pm till anywhere between 7-9am, most of the time I have to wake him up at 7:45-8 so that he can eat before he goes to my aunts house for the day. (I am lucky and will do ANYTHING to keep this schedule!) We are now on week 3 of this schedule :) We do bath then bottle then bed, every night at about the same time, now if we could just scoot it earlier so that I can get in bed before 12-1am! My niece on the other hand is 8 months and doesn't sleep through the night either...IDK, keep working at it she will get there!

My daughter takes about 4oz between 9:30pm - 10pm (also fed a little bit of cereal) and asleep in bed by 10:30. She normally wakes up anytime between 6am and 7:30am, again drinking 4 -5oz. After she has her morning bottle, shes usually awake for about an hour, takes another 2oz and then falls asleep again for 2-3 hours. She has been sleeping through the night since she was 7 weeks old and is now 13 weeks old.

My daughter was born Jnuary 9th and she has been sleeping through the night since she was 2 months old. What really helped was putting a little bit of rice ceral in her bottle. I would put about a tablespoon and a half and she would take it before bed and she started sleeping thru the night on like the second night of her eating her bottles with formula. Try that hopefully this helps! Just watch cutting the nipple of her bottle too much lol I had a big mess with that on accident! Gotta love husbands!

Your doctor is dreaming. The technical term for "sleeping through the night" is 5 hours straight. My daughter is sleeping 4 and a half to 5 hours, but now is going through her 3 month growth spurt, so is waking up after 3-4 hours. My first son didn't sleep 5 hours straight until he was 6 months old! Every child is different. I wish doctor's wouldn't make people worry when this is perfectly normal. Thank goodness my doctor is more reasonable.

Sounds like my little one. Is she breast fed? most breast fed babies wake up during the night for up to a year or until you supplement other foods. They just digest it too quickly!

you don't have to burp with a dream feed ...they are too relaxed to gulp in any air. I haven't anyway and haven't had an issue... The dream feed has definitely made a difference in getting in the middle of the night :)

I am on the lucky side. My daughter was born January 31 and is now 12 weeks old today and has been sleeping around 10 hours a night since she was 8 weeks old. Right after she got her 8 weeks shots she started sleeping through the night. She goes to bed around 8 or 9pm and gets up around 6 or 7am. We both have to work so the schedule is great!! Now the weekends I wish she would sleep in a little longer but I can't complain cause I don't have to get up in the middle of the night. My little one is drinking about 25 oz a day. We also up her to the number 2 nipples this last week and she is a much happy camper now. She drinks about 5 oz during a feeding.

You dream feeders - do you burp when you do the dream feed?

We're on a weird schedule. Basically we put baby to bed @ around 1 am - and she sleeps til 7:15 - 8:45 depending on the day. I feed her and then put her back to bed and she sleeps until 11-12. So I think we're really the same as you guys getting woken up @ 3 am - we're just on a later version if it.

If anyone has any tips on how to transition this back a bit - I'd love to hear them. I've been reading the Baby Whisperer - but have no yet attempted a dream feed.

Hi Kelly,
Kate (born Jan 22) goes to be around 8 and usually sleeps until about 2am when she wakes up and I feed and change her. Then she goes back down until 6ish. She's pretty big - I think around 15lbs now and breastfed. The odd night she will wake up between 11pm and midnight as well and then again at 4 or 5am. So we are mostly getting a 6 hour stretch but it's from 8pm and I don't usually go to bed until 10 or 10:30. I tried doing the "dream feed" a couple times, but it didn't seem to make any difference. She was still waking up again before 6am, so I stopped. Sounds like everyone is different! Hopefully you'll get a bit longer stretches coming soon. :)

My little guy does really well at night and has for a while now. I feed him before I put him to bed which is around 8 or 8:30, then he normally doesn't wake up until 4 or 5, I feed him again and he goes back to sleep until 8 or 9, depending on when my 2 year old wakes us all up! Just a thought, my baby is almost 14 lbs and I've heard that the bigger the baby the longer they sleep!

I'm a tad spoilt, Nyah sleeps 8 hours every night, has done since she was 7 weeks. before that though she was feeding every 2-3 hours. I just have the same bedtime routine every night and it works for her and me, good luck, I hope you get there sooner rather than later.

HI Kelly, My son was only having 3-4 oz at a time a few weeks ago but was hungry every 2 hours or so. I left him for longer one day and just tried to keep him busy when he was hungry and after about 4 hours i gave him a bottle and he had 6.5 oz and has stuck to it, he will have a feed at 7am 11am 3pm 5.30pm then he will have a little top up of about 3 oz before bed which is 6.30pm he wakes anytime between 2 and 4 am for a full feed which is done with no talking or eye contact and very dim lighting and gets put straight back to bed asleep or not. Maybe try stretching out the feeds for longer and try tank her up in the hours before bed time also make sure that the teats you use are approapriate for her age. Hope this helps.

Hi Kelly, our girl is 13 weeks old and she is around 10lbs and sleeping just like yours. I'm nursing so I can't tell how much she's eating, but gobbles up a 4oz bottle in no time. She eats every 2hrs throughout the day, so a 4-6 hr stretch at night is nice, I just wish it was the last part of the night.

How much are your babies eating at a time? My daughter will only eat 4 oz.. I think this may be part of the problem.

Hi Kelly, My daughter is about the same age (born Jan 6) and sleeping for about 7 hours at night. I get her up for a "dream feed" at 10.30 or 11pm and then she wakes about 5.30am for her next one. Over the weekend I lucked out and she actually slept until nearly 7am three days in a row! Many "experts" say that 6 months is quite normal for sleeping through and some won't sleep through until 2 years old. Some people have suggested offering water in the middle of the night so that there is no incentive to wake up...I've never tried it myself. Good luck and I hope you start getting some more sleep soon.

My son is about the same pattern as well he was born Jan. 16th. I had two nights this weekend where he slept six hours the first stretch then 3-4 after that, but they were nice days outside and we spent plenty of time outside getting some fresh air. And as far as Abby saying her daughter wakes up wet in the morning I read that you could avoid nightime diaper changes by putting baby in a diaper a size larger. My son is in size 2 and we were using size 3 at night, but then he wet through those so now we use a size 4 at night and it works. i think he is just ready to be in size 3 diapers during the day though.

I lucked out...my mother had my daughter sleep in her chest for the first few nights after coming home from the hospital. It scared the tar out of me. It started a pattern and rarely do I have to get up in the middle of the night. She goes to sleep around midnight and gets up at 9 or so. We usually have to deal with wet clothes, but I would rather have sleep than less laundry. The only other problem was that it took a LONG time to get her to sleep in the crib.

Hi! my son too! The last week we have tried a "dream feed" where he we feed him before we go to bed while he is asleep. It works! I read about it in the "Baby Whisperer". I was scared to wake him up but he is in a semi conscious state and goes right back down again. Basically it eliminated getting up for the first feed... So far so good.
