I bet it wont be too long for your little one! mine rocked like that for about a week and then she started crawling like crazy now we cant get her sit still for a second and she is standing up holding on to things too! its insane and fun! dont worry your little girl will get there very soon!

My Miles started crawling a few weeks ago. It seemed like he was on the verge of crawling for a long time; rocking back & forth, then kinda leap-frogging about. He also kept trying to get up on his feet as if he wanted to go straight to walking. I think what helped encouraged him to settle down to crawl was that I started crawling around him all the time. It's kinda like, once he saw it was a viable means of transporting himself, he gave it a try. He still gets up on his feet sometimes, and will crawl like that if he doesn't like the floor surface, so maybe he was working on that technique the whole time.

my son was born jan 20. he started to rock back and forth around more than a month ago, now he's crawled and able to climb up and stand up holding on to his cribs. i think he's started to walk towards me when i hold his both hands. Anyway, that rocking back and forth thing lasted for around a week.

My daughter was born jan 15 and she has been crawling/scooting sence she was towards the end of 5 months she was scooting all over the place and the middle of july around the 20th she started really crawling. she gets into everything and chases her brother everywhere they love playing too. i cought her last week pulling herslef up on the coffie table

Chance was born on the 20th and hates tummy time and always has! He will roll but not much. He has been sitting on his own for a awhile now and will lean over and pick up toys and inch himself around from the sitting position by pulling his butt with his hands! I think he might crawl soon but from the sitting position. I am kind of dreading it because he will be into everything!!

My baby girl was born Jan 20th. She has been rocking back and forth for over a week, looking like she'll take off crawling any time. She gets around by doing the army man crawl. It's very effective for her, but she's still trying to get moving with those knees!

Stephen, born Jan 4th, is not quite crawling yet. He hasn't quite figured out what to do with his hands yet. He pushes with his legs until his butt is in the air while his forehead is grinding into the ground. He moves forward a little, but gets really pissed. It's actually quite funny!

Rudy was born Jan 8 and is not crawling yet. He has the idea but hasn't put the parts all together yet. I am not in a hurry, as we are getting ready to move and I don't want to babyproof this house lol. He does roll around, and goes backwards a bit, but not up on all fours.

everyone is different but the rocking back and forth means she's on track and will soon enough move to the "army commando" crawl and then the crawl. baby-proof now, electrical outlets and any cabinets and drawers you don't want her noseing into!

My daughter was born January 8th and is able to stand at furniture and take a few steps with support but cannot crawl, or should I say "won't" crawl. Every baby is different so don't worry about your child's development just yet. I think the approx. age for crawling is around 7-8 months.

my baby was born jan. 6th and she isnt even trying to crawl yet, she can sit up on her own and say dada and momma and ba ba but she absuletely hates being on her tummy, i put her on her tummy atleast 2 times a day and when she rolls over i put her back on her tummy but this week she has been scooting on the back its sooo funny!!

mt son was born jan 6th and he is almost crawling. he gets up on his hands and knees and rocks too! but once in a while he goes forward just for like one step then quits. he's really trying though it wont be long now.

Madison did that for a while to, she would only do it like twice a day, she got over it after like 2 weeks or so.

My guy was born Jan. 23 and he's walking...kidding! He's definitely on all 4's rocking back and forth, but hasn't yet figured it out. He also has difficulty rolling from his stomach to his back. I know he can do it because I've seen it, but he still fusses. Anyone with that problem?

My son started rocking back and forth on his knees at 4months. He was doing pushups too. He started crawling on 1 knee and 1 foot about 1 month ago. Now he's crawling fast on both knees and is cruising along the furniture. He was born Jan 13th.

thank you everyone for your help, the past to days we have acually found a way to get her to drag herself to us, its so cute, we hold something that she really wants to play with in front of her were she can still reach and then slowly moving it were she can and she drags herself to it. :)
i cant wait till she acually starts to crawl (its so exciting when they do something new)

My son was born Jan 13. Was doing the on all 4s and rocking back and forth for about 2.5 weeks before he started to crawl. He started backwards first, but that lasted about 2 days. He started crawling well, not just one step and fall, about 2 weeks ago.... If your baby is on all 4's and rocking it should be any day now.

Bianca was born Jan 9th. She's been crawling for a few weeks now. The rocking she did for a little bit then bam she got it. They get really fast once they start going so WATCH OUT! =)

MY LITTLE ELIJAH WAS BORN JAN.1ST AND HE HAS THE CRAWLING DOWN NOW HIS ON TO BIGGER THINGS HE'S PULLING HIMSELF UP ON THINGS AND INTO EVERYTHING. ELIJAH STARTED WITH THEROCKING BACK AND FORWARD FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE HE REALIZED HE COULD ACTUALLY GO FROM THAT SPOT. IT WILL NOT BE LONG GUYS JUST ENCOURAGE THEM TO GO OR COME TO MOMMIE AND DADDIE AND THEY WILL BE EAGERED TO GET TO YOU AND TAKE OFF BEFORE THINKING ABOUT IT. AND KIDS ARE VERY SMART MOST OF THE TIME THEY ARE ALREDY CRAWLING YOU JUST HAVEN'T CAUGHT THEM DOING IT, THATS REALLY HOW I KNEW ELIJAH COULD CRAWL CAUSE I CAUGHT HIM AND WHEN HE SAW ME HE WENT DOWN LIKE HE DIDN'T WANT ME TO KNOW YET .THEY ARE VERY CLEVER INDIVIDUALS!

Hey, my daughter was born on 13th jan & she is not crawling at all yet. She sits up on her own now, but when she goes on her front, she will hold herself up for a few minutes, then give up. She doesnt roll over either. However she loves standing up. I have this feeling she will skip crawling & rolling & go straight to walking. Can someone help, Should I be worried? Thanks

My daughter was born on January 15th and she only rolls she don't even rock or scoot she just rolls whereever she wants to go! She can't even sit up on her own she always falls to her side and I've been working with her but she just wont sit on her own she can if she has us holding her legs but other then that she just falls over. Hoped I helped.

My LO was born January 12th, and he started crawling a week before he turned 5 months. He just took his first step today! He was doing what your little girl is doing for about 3 days before he started crawling--just a few feet at a time initially. He is incredibly active, so I don't know that I'd take my little guy's cues as a hint as to when it will happen!

lol sounds just like my one.. He is 7 months, he didn't show any interest in crawling till about a week ago and he does the same goes from sitting up to hands and knees and them rocks... They do say about 9 months they should of established crawling. Put toys out of her reach and when she gets frustrated let her frustration is good. Its good that she is showing interest in moving about..

My youngest was born December 29th. She's sort of crawling. It looks more like swimming, but she can move forward. The best encouragement I've found for getting babies to crawl is to leave something on the floor you don't want them to have. For my oldest it was shoes. For my middle child it was electronics (cell phone, TV remote, etc). For the youngest it seems to be anything made of paper, or her older brother's toys :) Don't worry, they will crawl, and it'll be soon. Once they start you'll be wishing they weren't cause suddenly you'll have to clear off all the low shelves in your house! :)

Lilah was born on 1/21 and just started crawling on 8/3. She was rocking on her hands and knees for a few weeks, then she would get up on her feet and hands and would walk her feet up but wouldn't move her hands. She finally got to move her hands and is back on her knees.

My son was born Jan13th and is crawling like crazy! He's super fast too - he can catch the cats and the dog! He took about a week of floping like a fish outta water and army crawling before he actually got it down. He was so frustrated because he would move his legs like crazy but his arms wouldn't go, then he would move his arms but his hind end wouldn't come, so he would give up and roll wherever he was going. We used the remote (which he doesn't get to play with, but would REALLY like to) to entice him to move towards us, and just made a HUGE deal out of any attempt and when he gave up we would "crawl" him over to the other person. I doubt any of it really helped him, but he's moving now! Now he thinks he wants to walk, and is pulling up on anything. They will move when they want to, and if your concerned you can always ask your doctor.

My daughter was born on Jan 26 and has been army crawling for like 3 weeks now and gets around very fast. She does try to get on her knees sometimes but she doesn't care since she can get where she wants army crawling.

My daughter was born January 4th and ia about 95% crawling. She gets into crawling position then supports her weight on her hip/thigh and pushes with the other leg and crawls with her arms. She has also discovered that she can sit and rotate on her butt then go into crawling position, shift her butt the other direction then sit up again to move about 2 feet at a time with less effort. I read it is not crawling that is a milestone, but figuring out how to get an object out of reach, so however they get to it is the success.

Zachary (1/20) scoots backwards and tries to scoot (army crawl) foward but hasn't quite figured it out! Instead, he just rolls and rolls across the room to get what he wants. He has done everything else "early" so I am suprised he is not crawling yet but I know it will happen soon! Lots of babies don't actually crawl until 8 months or so, so I am not worried!

Aaron's been crawling backward for a little while now, and trying to go forwards but ends up going sideways. Since the weeked he's decided it's easier to shuffle forwards on his bum. He's been sitting up on his own for nearly a month now, it seems as though he's decided it's the best way to get what he wants rather than crawl for it LOL.

thats a good question, i would like to no on how i could encourage her more.
right now i help her get up on her knees and i call to her to come to me, i also try to put toys infront of her where she cant reach and she tries to grab for them,

yes army shuffling is when they use there elbows and forarms and drag them selves on there bellies!

My boy was born January 8th. He's rolling all over the place, shuffling backwards and getting up on his knees but not crawling yet. They will crawl when they are ready. I am super eager too! lol

My daughter has been army shuffle crawling for a couple of weeks, and then the last couple of days she has pulled herself up on her knees and moved 2 spaces before falling over. Shes adament though. She was born 1st Jan.
