My Daughter is eating solid food and breast feeding but she is constipated

My Daughter is eating solid food and breast feeding but she is constipated, it has been 4 days now that she hasn't passed a stool and I am worried , I am giving her prun sauce and oatmeal but how long should this go on for and when can it be dangerous? please help and thank you

Hey, Dont be worried. When i first started solids with my son he didnt poop for like 8 days and the dr wasnt concerned at all because he is a breast fed baby. You could try a little juice my dr told me. Or if you really wanted to you could stimulate his rectum with some vaseline on a thermometer that sometimes helps. I wouldnt worry i'd let it go a few more days and if he still doesnt go call the dr. i would stick with just some prunes or fruit for a few days. My son still only poops like once every 3 days now that he gets solids. He use to poop one huge explosion a day. So it's normal.

I would try giving 2-3 oz of 100% juice a day, my baby had the same problem and I think she just wasn't taking as much liquids when we started adding juice in she was fine and back to normal!!

Give your doctor a call and see what they say. This happened to me (but it was only about 3 days for my son, Xander) and they told me that feeding rice cereal, which I was doing, can make the problem worse. They suggested prunes, which worked great. I've also heard that peaches, pears and plums can work as well. Good luck!
