My daughter is spitting out solids, what should I do?

My daughter turns 1 on the 23rd and she probably drinks about 20-25 oz of formula a day. My ped said to give her soft foods and i was giving her gerber stuff and now she just spits it back out. I also give her some table foods and she just eats so little of everything I cant even count it...like a few bites...small bites. ..thats it. She is just not eating solids at all anymore...what happened? She also does this weird thing ...puts her fingers down her throat and gags...when i pull out her hands cuz Im afraid shes going to hurt herself she smiles and does it again....help!

Omg Tamara you are so funny! Yes I am soooo afraid to let her start eating by herself...Ive had pea's all over me just when I feed her...god know what I would look like if I hand the spoon over...im scared LOL! Good to know I am not the only one in this boat. I guess Ill have to get her high chair in a tile room bfore taking on this challenge! Yes she reaches for the spoon ALL the time. I suppose I cant complain because you are dealing with TWO...hats off to ya! Thanks so much for the response!

Ok my twins do this too mee all the time.. they go from eating solids to not.. and one always cough's and throw up.. I found that they want to feed themselves.. totally mess.. but with that much formula they might not want to eat alot.. my doctor has me put them in high chairs.. with wagon wheel and 2 puffs as they finish i try to spoon feed a little.. then i give them each a spoon and they go nuts.. they pick up food and seems to get most all over them..then i give them each a sippy cup with a little formula and milk, or water.. they will top of there meal and r ready to play but babies r weird. they know when they r full .. and might seems like they rnt eating but they r.. plus i learned ignore the hand thing.. she totally thinks u r playing with her.. i learned that from the twin that "coughs" and then smiles.. once i stopped ignoreing it she stop coughing till she threw up.. plus they only get about 16 to 20oz formula a day.. i found once i slowly lower bottle amounts.. they would eat more..
