Hey, I am just wondering how the babys born in january are sleeping? Anyone got babies sleeping throught the night yet. my little boy is still up every two to three hours and he seems to be squirming a lot the past two days during his feedings like he wants and he cries for it then you give him the bottle and he tries to spit it back out and he is barely drinking any milk. Wondering if anoyone is having any similar problems?

Hi Nicole.....my little one was born the 7th Jan.  For about a week Jacob started sleeping from 7/8pm until 5/6am.  I had to change his feed to hungrier babies as he was hungry all the time.  Now he takes 7oz every 4 hours.  I had to persevere with making him go longer between feeds as he was on 7oz every 2 and half to 3 hours!  Now he seems more settled and happier.....and i am lucky to get that amount of sleep! x

My little girl had her 2 month check-up this week and the dr. said it is acid reflux.  He said it sounds like she has a mild case of it so he said to put rice cereal in her bottle (1 teaspoon per ounce) to weight it down and let gravity work in our favor.  He didn't want to jump straight to medication because it is so mild, which I am thankful for!  She is sleeping through the night now (around 8 hours or so) which is wonderful!!!!!

Quoting Jackie:

My daughter was born on the 17th. She is only waking up once during the night. she'll sleep from 9 to about 2:30 eats 4 oz and goes back to sleep til 5:30 6:00. I noticed this last week and a half though she has been eating 3-4 oz every two hours rather than her normal 3-4 oz every three and half hours. She has been kinda fussy inbetween feeding too and having a hard time napping durning the day. I think it because she is going through a growth spurt.

It is more than likely a growth spurt.  They go through it a 4 weeks, 6 weeks and 8 weeks.  You could try giving her and extra ounce in her bottle at feedings to satisfy her longer.

My daugher was born on the 6th and she has been sleeping through the nights for the past week and a half. I find that if you put them on a routine then it helps her to know when it is time to sleep. I get home from work at 6 and play with her till 7. She takes a bottle at 7 then I give her a bath around 7:30 and we play some more until 9:30 then I give her her final bottle and she falls asleep around 10 and stays asleep until I have to get up at 6:30. I'm not sure if this will keep up, but it is working wonders for me right now.

My baby boy was born on Jan 5th. He sleeps for about 5 hrs. eats then goes to sleep 3 more hours, then is ready to start the day. Your baby sounds like mine. He is very gassy. I burp him in the middle of one side, put him back on it, then burp him when he's done, then put him on the other side. He doesnt usually eat as long on the second side by that time because he has gotten so skilled at eating that he doesnt need to nurse as long. But i burp him again after the second time. And regaurdless of how much i burp him he still spits up all the time. He just had his appointment though and the doctor said as long as he is gaining wieght he's fine. He's a healthy 14.6 lbs. :)

My little boy is more or less sleeping through the night now.  He was born on the 16th.  The only way he sleeps through the night though is right beside me.  Yep, I'm a co-sleeper.  When he is around 4 to 6 months old, I'll sneak him into a crib like i did my older son, but co-sleeping just seems to make a good nights sleep for all involved.

My son was born on Jan 5th.. he is sleeping 5 to 6 hours at night then wake up for feeding then go back to sleep for another 2 or 3 hours. I don't have that problem but before he was very gassy and he wakes up more often.. (if you are breastfeeding) change the diet.. Maybe the nipple on the bottle has more than one hole and he couldn't control how much he is swallowing. Do you burp him often?

My girl is 2 mos (14 Jan) and sleeps anywhere from 5 to 8 hours a stretch at night time before waking for a feed. But she has become a terror in the evenings, really hard to get her to sleep, most nights for the past 2 weeks she has had to be held to fall asleep (which I don't mind, especially as it is only this one time that she won't go down easily).

But just reading through all these posts you can see that it comes back to that whole every child is different - I wish they came with instruction manuals!

i suggest giving them a bath right before you feed them to go to bed for the night. if your child is like mine and they cry alot during the bath from being cold and wet ( he's not into the bath tub just yet, but he's starting to like it more) i find it tires him out and then after a big feed they might sleep alot longer. plus giving him/her a bath at night at around the same time will help get them into a schedule...

Yes! I am having the same problem! My son (born on the 10th) wakes and acts like he's hungry, but then doesn't eat. Not always, but usually in the morning. (Not sure what that's all about??) However, he doesn't wake every two to three hours, he goes to bed around 9-10 and he typically wakes around 1am and then 5am. Is your son breast-fed? Mine is, and my sister-in-law suggested mixing 1/2 formula and 1/2 breast milk for his night feedings to make him sleep longer...it seems to help! Like Jackie said, it could be a growth spurt...sounds like all our babies are on the same page, so it must be pretty normal. Everyone I've talked to said most babies typically start sleeping through the night around 2-3 months. **In regards to the acid reflux...my pediatrician prescribed medication for that and my son still has these issues, so it might not be acid reflux. However, my son does sleep much better while on the medication.

Yes my little boy is pretty much the same. He was fussy all day yesterday constantly eating and was awake almost the full day so I was thinking there might be a chance he will sleep longer tonight but not a chance!!! He was up almost every two hours! The longest period of time he has slept for during the night has been 4 hours. But I guess thats it, they are growing so fast I guess they need to eat often. Every baby is different and they are so unpredictable lol. But we love them no matter what....

OK, so I gave Nathan 6 ounces instead of 5 ounces at his 8:15 feeding last night and he was up wailing hungry by 11:30. What gives?

Oh how I long for the night when my little boy doesn't wake up. He'll be 8 weeks on Sunday and he's up every 3-4 (sometimes 4.5 or 5) hours to eat. He's formula fed and takes 5 ounces at each feeding.  I think I'm going to try 6 ounces at tonight's bedtime feeding and see how that holds him.

My daughter was born on the 22nd and we are still up once or twice a night to nurse. Last night she slept a whole 6 hours! This has not been the norm, however I am praying that it will be soon.

I was! My daughter Piper was crying and spitting her milk out of her mouth. Turns out she had thrush in her mouth. The doctor gave her some medicine for it last week, and she is eating a lot better now! She slept for 7 hours last night, but that was the first time!! I was really worried lol and kept checking on her! Hope your little guy is doing good!

My girl was born on 23rd, she is sleeping about 5-6 hours at one stretch at night. She goes down around 10-10:30, and at that last feeding I feed her a little bit longer. She is exclusively breastfed and since she spits up a lot, during the day her feedings are only about 10-15 minutes. The last feeding before bed stretches out to about 20-25 minutes and that satisfies her for most of the night and she rarely spits up in her sleep anymore.

My son was born on 18th. He wakes up once in the night. He is formula fed, so at his 11pm feed, I give him a slightly bigger bottle. He usually drinks 120ml, but at 11pm, he gets 150ml. This seems to help him sleep a little longer. He then wakes up at 3am and again at 7am. It really helps me keep my sanity. My advice would be to give your little one a slightly larger bottle at his last feed, before midnight. As for the spitting up - my midwife and peaditrition have assured me that spitting up milk is normal. However if he is vomitting alot of milk up - I would suggest seeing a doctor - as it could be reflux. I also find that my son also gets himself a little worked up sometimes and spits the bottle out - even though you can see he is hungry. I just hold the bottle firm and he eventually sucks and calms down. If he gets worked up during the feed, I stop, burp him and either change his nappy or walk a bit with him - then try again. It calms him down and he feeds much better afterwards. As for your child not feeding properly - so long as he / she is picking up weight normally - I wouldnt worry. A baby will not underfeed its self. The pead. told me to feed solely on demand. We all have out off days - that includes babies!! If he / she is not picking up weight normally then I would see a doc. Hope it helps!!! Good luck!!!

My son was born on the 13th.  He sleeps all the time, most of the day and he'll wake up around 2am to eat and then goes right back to sleep.  I have 2 other children though and I'm thinking that if he's crying but spitting out the bottle there may be something else wrong.  Sounds like he may have gas, try burping mid feeding or Mylicon in the bottle if gas is what the problem is.

OMG!  My little girl is doing the exact same thing with her bottle, but it's not all the time!  I haven't figured it out because she does it at home and out, during different times of the day, etc.  I go to the dr next week and I'm going to ask him.  It may be acid reflux.  As for the sleep issue, she sleeps between feedings (about every 4 hours or so).  She'll get up, eat, then go back to sleep.  She has started to fight sleep at times by squirming and flailing her arms and legs.

Mydaughter was born on the 6th and she is almost sleeping through the night.  What I mean is that she goes to bed at around 8 and then wakes up anywhere from between4:30-6:30 in the morning.  She has also started cluster feeding in the 4-5 hours before she goes to bed.  She is breastfed all day and then at night starting at the 7:30 feeding she gets formula which has helped her sleep longer.  if she wakes up any time after 6 then she is again breastfed.  Since she had her 2 month shots though, we are having a rough time getting her settled both during the day and at night.  My daughter gets so upset when we take her bottle away halfway or off the breast that I wait to burp her.  She would end up screaming!!  Could your baby be a little gassy?  My little girl does the squirmy thing when she is gassy.

My son was born on January 16th...and he just started sleeping through the night...about 71/2 hours.   Every few feedings my son will cry hysterically like he's hungry...but then take over an hour to eat (he's bottle fed formula)  And he won't finish the bottle.  And when he does finish the whole thing he spits up afterwards.  I've found that burping half way through a feeding...kinda refreshes him.  And he's able to finish the bottle...and not be so fussy afterwards.  I think finishing the whole thing at once, made him not feel good, which made him not want to sleep afterwards.
