I was wondering if there were any January babies that are sleeping through the night. My daughter did it twice but for the last 2 nights she woke up at 3 for about an hour. Just wanted to hear what other mom's are experiencing at night.

my son was born January 11 and has been sleeping through the night (knock on wood) for about 10 days now, going down at about 8pm and sleeping through without eating until about 6-7am. I am finding evidence that he wakes up in the middle of the night, but he is putting himself back to sleep. As i understand it, its more important that they learn to put themselves back to sleep than to sleep straight through without waking up. I mean, you wake up in the middle of the night, too, right? But you have the ability to roll over and go back to sleep. That is the skill they need to pick up, to not have to be rocked or bottled back to sleep. Looks like our kids are all right on track!

Zoe was born on Jan. 31st. She has been sleeping through the night for at least a month now. She eats 8oz. around 8:30-9:30. When she is done I take her up stairs and lay her in her pack N play wide awake. I tell her to play if she wants but I'm going to bed. I can hear her cooing. Sometimes she wakes up and I just hear her playing (she doesn't cry) until she goes back to sleep. She can sleep through all noises so I don't have to worry about the dogs barking at my husband when he comes home from work. She then gets up when I do usually around 7am (5am if I have to go to work). But she doesn't want to eat again until around 8:30-9:00. If I feed her before then she only eats a couple of oz. each time. If I wait until she lets me know that she's hungry she eats between 7 and 8 oz. every feeding. She doesn't nap very much at all during the day, but she doesn't get cranky.

Ellis just slept through the night for the first time last night! Slept form 8-6:30. I was awesome. I'm hoping he does it again tonight. Usually, he goes down between 7-8 and gets up around 1-2 for a feeding and then around 5 again. I'm breast feeding, the the dr. told me to give him a supplemental bottle with one ounce of expressed milk with a tablespoon of rice cereal in it. Worked the first night, maybe it will work again.

My daughter born 1/30/09 has slept through the night only twice, every other night she wakes only once around 4am for a quick feeding since 3-4 weeks old. I have wondered what to expect also.

Max goes to sleep between 8 and 9 and will sleep until 12 or 1.  Then he seems to wake up every 1.5-2 hours after that.  Although to tell you the truth, I don't keep track of it that much.  We're co-sleeping, so I kind of just roll over, stick a boob in his mouth and we both drift back off.  We get up for the day at about 7, but he usually wants to go down for a nap at 9.

My daughter is pretty much the exact same as your son!  She goes to sleep about 10 & wakes up at like 1 or 2 & then is pretty much consistent to wake up every 2 hours! There was like 2 weeks where she was sleeping 11 to 5 I have no idea why all of a sudden she stopped doing it?? But that's okay. It's no bad being she's cosleeping! & we also get up for the day about 7 but she's usually asleep again about 9 or 10!

YUP!  That's our exact schedule.  He goes down for the first nap at 9am.  :)  How old is your daughter?  Max is 11 weeks tomorrow.

Terran (my son) is the same at 14 weeks old. I try and give him a bath around 6:30pm, massage, feed and try to put him down by 8:30pm. He's up at 11-ish which is when I feed him and go to bed myself. We co-sleep so I am not sure exact hours, but it feels like he is up every 1.5 - 2 hours (3 if I am lucky). I am a combo feeder but night feeds I can ususally get away w/ just the breast. Except the past week. Last 2 nights - I have to supplement w/ formula around 3am - and then he won't go back to sleep w/o a huge fit of crying and screaming if he starts to dose. He has just started to freak out at nap and feeding times. He rubs his eyes, maws on his fingers and yawns so I try to feed him - he freaks out. After 30 min of this - I can lullaby him to sleep and then dream feed him. Same w/ day naps (which seems to now be only 1 long 2.5 hour nap at about 1pm). Not sure if he is teething? I don't want to over feed, but as I have struggled with my milk supply from the beggining, I worry he is not eating enough. He has regular wet diapers and poops - but the last few days he seems to be eating a lot less and sleeping less.  I pray for the day of a 6 hour stretch of sleep!

My daughter was born on the 22 and at 8 weeks old started sleeping through the night. At first i would put her to bed at 11 and she would get up at 6:30. Now I put her to bed around 9 and she gets up at 7. I never gave her a say otherwise.

My son has been wonderful. He sleep through the night most nights. We give him his last bottle at 8pm... He is sleeping in bed around 8:45pm and then he goes until Mommy wakes him up at 6am to go to the daycare provider. On weekends, he'll sleep in until 7:30ish. He is a VERY good boy! I feel so blessed!

I really think there is not a hard-and-fast rule for sleeping. Every baby is different. Griffin goes to sleep between 7-8 and usually sleeps 'till 12 or 1 when he gets up to eat briefly. He'll usually do that once or twice more and lately he's been getting up at 6:30 for diaper change, eat and play a little. However, I've had a hard time lately getting him to nap during the day...hopefully its just a phase.

I'm still having to get up at least twice a night with my son.

I usually get a good 3-5 hour chunk at first... after that it's anywhere from 1-2 hours.

My daughter is really good with night sleeps - she goes right through and some mornings I have to wake her!! She has been sleeping through from only 2 weeks old! She does feed every 2-3 hours in the day time to make up for no night feeds though! In her own room from 2 months old - she cries when I first put her down in her cot but I put her mobile on and leave the room for a few minutes and when I go back to check on her she is always asleep - I have never taken her back out of her cot once she is in there for the night!

Chrissy - I was waking my little girl for her 10/11pm feed and then on the night I didn't she slept right through and has done ever since - my brother had said to me "what are you THINKING waking a sleeping baby at night" so I kinda thought to myself, yeah, what am I thinking?!?!?! trial it out and see if it works! good luck! I also think formula fed babies sometimes sleep better as you know exactly how much they've had to drink before bed - when I was breastfeeding, I'd express and bottle feed before bed so I knew exactly what Eva had drunk and I was confident she'd had enough.

my little pumpkin started sleeping through about 3 weeks ago (she was born on the 1st Jan) and has consistently done it since. (am keeping my fingers crossed it continues!!) - we put her down at 7pm and she sleeps until 5/6am the next morning. brilliant! she is excellent at self settling too - I persevered for around a week before she started sleeping though with not going into sooth her at her every whimper. If she was crying and really upset I'd go in, but 9 times out of 10 she was just having a whinge and not really upset and after 10 mins she'd have fallen asleep! Eva has 200 mls of formula at each feed during the day (every 4 hrs) except the first thing in the morning feed when she'll take an extra 40mls.

My son who is born in January falls asleep at about 8.30 pm. My husband wakes him up at about midnight to feed him again and then Josh (my son) gets immediately back to bed and sleeps til 6.30 / 7.00.

Now I am wondering if we should try not to wake him up. Maybe he would sleep through. What do you think?

Mac has her last feed at 8pm, in bed by 9-15pm.  She sleeps through until 7am.  We make sure we give her a bath after her last feed and have a big play with her and by 9-15 he is asleep in daddy's arms. Put her in her cot and she will sleep through until 7am.  She has been doing this for about 5 weeks now.

Nap time - Mac gets fed every 4.5 hours, stays up for about 2 hours, no more and then i put her in ther cot in her room even if she is awake, I wrap her in her swaddle and she has associated her swaddle and cot = sleep time.  She will put herself to sleep within 30 minutes, in that time she may talk to herself and have a little grizzle, but i don't attend to her unless she has been crying for 10 minutes, which i only had to do a couple of times.

Good Luck.

My little girl has her last feeding (breastfeeding)around 9 pm and she sleeps until 3 or 4 then a quick feed and she is back to sleep until 7ish. I can't wait until she doesn't need that feeding. She usually will go back to sleep until 9ish but has been having trouble since I went back to work last week. She is home with dad and will not nap for him. She will fall asleep in his arms or on his lap but as soon as he puts her down she screams. Hopefully she will get into a better routine for him soon!!

My son pretty much sleeps through the night. He gets a bath around 7:30, then I put the J&J nighttime lotion on him, then I feed him until he goes to sleep (I breastfeed). I put him in his crib (usually around 9ish). He usually wakes once around 4am to eat for about 10-15mins then he sleeps until about 8am.

I swaddle him (except his arms) and I put him to sleep on his tummy. I found it was the only way to get him to sleep longer. A routine also helped a lot. If I don't give him a bath before bed, he wakes up more during the night.

Naps are a completely different story (just started another conversation about naps :) )

My son gets bottle fed during the day while I'm at work and I breastfeed when I'm home. For the last 3 weeks, I have given my son a bath, massaged him w/ lotion, put his pajamas on, given him a 4 oz bottle w/ 1 1/2 teaspoons of rice cereal, then breast fed him after he finished the bottle. He goes to sleep at 8:30 a.m. and sleeps until about 7:30 a.m.

at night my son gets a bath, eats a bottle i read to him, put him down in the crib to fall asleep on his own this is about 830 and he wakes between 630 and 8 am... i think it has to do with the size he is over 16 lbs and how much they are getting to eat during the day he has 5 feedings of 5-6 oz.... i think it deff has to do with the  routine to he is comfortable by himself so i don't have to go to him in the middle of the night and he doesn't have a binkie he would rather suck on his fingers so i never have the put that back in his mouth or anything

A tip for napping during the day.  My son stopped sleeping during the day he would fall asleep and every time I put him down he would wake up within minutes he wouldn't even sleep in the swing at all.  He was not getting enough sleep and was getting very fussy.  I started laying him on his tummy when he fell asleep and he stays asleep that way.  I know they say that babies shouldn't sleep on their tummy, but it is the only way my baby will sleep.  Plus when we were babies that is how they told mom's to put their babies to bed and I know many other people who do that as well and that is the only way their baby will sleep too.  I know they say not to do that which makes me a little paranoid about it so I just put him like that next to me on the couch or I put the monitor real close to him and turn it up all the way so I can hear him breath.  I have been doing this for over a month and it is the only thing that has worked.

Sometimes she falls straight back to sleep as soon as i lift her just wanting a cuddle i suppose. My other children didnt sleep through until around 7 mnths but i it depends what people class as sleeping through! i think 6 hrs sleep in a row would be nice!
