my little girl is just about a year old. she has had regular soy milk since she was about 2 months old, when i stopped producing breast milk. I used regualr soy untill i found a formula that I trusted. and now i do a similac formula, regular soy milk mix. Ive recently started putting 1 % milk in maybe once or twice a day, trying to get her off the soy without shocking her system, because she's not actually lactose intolerant.

I am only still using the soy because she used to it now and wont drink formula plain. Now that she is old enough to have dairy I dont want her to develop an issue with it. as of right now, she has dairy products all the time without reactions. She loves cheese, yogurt, sour cream, ice cream and all that good stuff. So if your son out grows the lactose intolerance, ( ive heard it happens), then i doubt you'll have an issue introducing milk products.

Alot of people have questioned me and a few have actually gotten angry with me when they find out ive been giving my daughter regular soy milk. But ive read about it alot, and although Ive seen mixed information I still feel comfotable with the decsion. I aslo ask her doctor about it, and he said as long as she's getting all her vitamins and nutrients, then there is nothing wrong with it. And My daughter is very healthy and has never shown any signs of reaction to the soy milk.

My mum has know a few people who either by choice, or beuase their babies were lactose intolerant, raised their kids on regular soy milk, and have never had any issues with it. And all of their children are middle aged now without any know long term affects ( Ive read that soy causes long term issues that may not be know untill later on, but also read that it doesnt lol)

I was worried about alot of the soy milks because alot of them are low calories, low fats etc. and was worried beause alot of them didnt have everything the baby needs like DHA and Omega-3. But i found one called SoGood. It has just about every vitamins etc. that regular formulas have, and its got added DHA, Omega-3, calcium, and it's not low fat ( I've been told the fat is good for babies)

I think as long as you find a good soy milk you shouldnt have any problems, soy formulas are all soy milk based, just like regular formulas are cows milk based. So i honestly dont see much of a differance. If you feel like you might not be giving your son enough vitamins with just regular soy, like i was worried about at first, you can always get him a once-a-day childrens vitamin supplement. I used one before i found the formula I use now, and Avery didnt like the taste, so i mixed hers into her morning bottle. Just be carefull to not over due the vitmain, too much can seriously hurt a baby.

If you still have doubts about regular soy milks, and worry too much about it, then maybe it's best to just stick to soy formula instead. As long as your son gets all his nutrients, and you feel comfortable with your choice, then id say go for it. We're all just trying to do whats best. Sometimes its difficult, but we can only try our hardest. I hope you find a solution that best fits you and your son. Best of luck.
