stopped breastfeeding... irregular cycle

I currently have a 13 month old. I stopped nursing when he was almost 11 months old. I hadn't had any bleeding while I was nursing, and finally had a period for the first time about 7 weeks ago. It was completely normal and I was really excited because my husband and I want another baby. I haven'y had another one since. I just took a pregnancy test and it was negative.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Did it return to normal eventually? Could something be wrong? I'm physically fit and exercise regularly, but not so much that it would stop my period.
Any ideas?

Wow! Congrats on your new pregnancy! Thanks for the tips. I'll just try to be more patient for a little while...

It can take up to six months for your body to regulate itself after you stop breastfeeding, and in rare cases it can take up to a year. When I stopped, it was about 5 months before my cycle regulated itself. You can take birth control for a few months, which can help to regulate your cycle also, and then stop when you are ready to start trying for another baby. My twins are just 2 days shy of 13 months, and I am 20 weeks pregnant...so it can happen really quickly sometimes!
Good luck to you, and remember, as always if you have any serious concerns, call your ob/gyn. That's what they are there for!

Mine also is very wacky. I nursed until my son was 11 months old as well and my periods began when my son was about 7 months old, but were 40-50 days apart. I have only had 2 periods since I stopped nursing and they have been 35 days apart. I am assuming it will take a while before we are back on a normal cycle or the cycle we used to be before pregnancy. I plan on going back on birth control for about 6 months or so to help get myself back on a schedule, but that would defeat your purpose of having another child. All I can say is to have patience and if you're really concerned, calling your OB or family care doctor might be best.
