I have 17 month old twin daughters who are still in their cribs. They haven't climbed out yet since we put the mattress at the lowest setting in the crib. I plan on leaving them in their cribs until they are climbing out of the crib - or attempting to climb out. I think it all just depends on the specific child whether to keep them in a crib or move to a toddler bed. good luck!

Jacoby, is almost 17 months and we will move him TONIGHT!!! It is out of necessity, DH is tired of being on the couch. We only have a full sized bed and some how Jacoby takes up 80% of it. His crib is on a different floor in the house and I am just not comfortable having him that far away. We got a toddler bed, that sits at the foot of our bed. We'll see how it goes :)

I would have to say if he is happy there then its fine - we moved our first when she was 2 because she climbed out and fell on the floor - it scared us so she went straight to a bed - luckily we already had one ready and let her play on it(about a month) before we moved her so she was used to it already. I have to say it was an mission to get her to stay in her bed a night though and took us a good 6 months or so to get her to do that. So just when you think he is ready and don't be in a hurry about it maybe you could get one ready and see how he responds to a day nap in it and go from there(if he has day naps). Good luck ;) My second is still in his cot at 17months and we have no plans to move him yet as there is no problems at the moment - probably look at it again when he gets closer to 2 unless he does the same thing as my daughter. Cheers.

My hubby and I were talking about the other day, it happens. Our kiddo has not tried to climb out (that we know of) so we're thinking about converting her bed when she turns 2. Playing it by ear it this point. I wouldn't fix it if it ain't broken. :)

My son was 17 1/2 months when he started to climbin and out of the crib, so we switched him to a toddler bed, good thing too because his sister came a month later, and he was okay not having the crib by then. My daughter just turned 17 months and she can climb half way into the brib but no intrest to climb out.... I think once they climb out I think it is best to change them... but your "mommy gut" will let you know when to.

my boys were about 2 1/2. I have 3 kids youngest is 17 months, and with my older two we had one on the way so they had to be out of the crib.lol I waited so long b/c we live in a 2 story home, and didn't want to worry about a gate giving out w/o me RIGHT there. (i know i am crazy) And I wanted them to be old enough to understand and listen that it's 'night-night' time. :)

I have 3 older and I always kept them in their crib as long as they'd allow! It must have been when they were nearly two if I remember right. Just wanna be sure they are ready and safe enough to stay in a toddler bed. Consider wandering at night. Babies generally feel safe and secure in their cribs ;) Dont be in too much of a hurry to move them to big kid bed :)

I've asked other moms the same question. With my first daughter, we switched her crib to the toddler daybed at age 2. I was pregnant with my now 16 month old. This helped her transition into the big kid bed so that we could put the daybed back into the crib for the new baby.

i kept my daughter in her crib til she climbed out & i plan 2 do the same w my son. he likes 2 play with the outlets in his room & he can take the outlet safety covers off so hopefully he'll lose that facination b4 i have 2 put him in a bed! if not i don't know what i'll do!?!?

I've been wondering the same thing as my son is big for 16 months so the crib seems to be getting small for him, but he's content most of the time. He moves so much in his sleep that I'm nervous to convert the crib to a "big boy" bed just yet. He's starting to lift his leg to try & climb out so the day may be coming sooner than I would like, but I'll keep him in there as long as I can.

Rebecca is almost 17 months old and has been sleeping with us since before Christmas because she was really sick and would not sleep in her crib. She climbs in her brothers bed anytime and pulls covers up and lays down. I really wonder if a toddler bed would work for her.

My Son is almost 17 months and im keeping him in his cot as long as i can, as he moves about SO much, he ends up all over the cot, even in little ball in a corner of his cot. He needs the cot still, as he would keep falling out. Also he is still in a sleeping bag or Sack, as bed sheets are no good as he just gets rapped up in them, same as a duvet, Also he is a bad sleeper and would climb out of a bed, his bedroom is not really safe without supervision, as he is a child who is into everything. x

if you're worried about climbing out of the crib as a reason to switch to a toddler bed..2 options..one is netting with a zipper over the crib..also sold to keep pets out of the crib but it serves this function as well....or a sleep sack. My son is still sleeping in a sleep sack at 16 months b/c I know if he wasn't he'd climb out of the crib every night. A sleep sack (they sell large and extra large) won't let him climb out..He also can't kick his blanket off and wake up cold during the night.

I always have kept my kids (4 of them) in a crib until it was no longer safe, such as when they try to climb out or n my oldest daughters case when she turned 4 years old. She was very petite, so it was still comfortable, however, my other three children after her have all gotten their fathers tallness, so they could never have waited that long! My daughter is 16 months old and is less than a foot from being able to touch her head and toes to the crib at the same time. Good thing she also sleeps curled up! Anyways.... the desicion to switch is all yours, just look for signs of your child being ready and make sure you have side rails :o)

We didn't put my 3 year old in a toddler bed until he was good at getting on and off of our couches. I think he was 18 months. Now my 1 year old has been walking since 9 months and getting on and off the furniture for 8 months now, so we are about to move him to a toddler bed and he is 16 months.

My daughter was in a toddler bed at 1 year old. But she liked to climb out. I plan on keeping this one in a crib as long as possible....he is 16 months today. I guess it just depends on what you and your child are comfortable with. Good Luck

My son is 16 months today. He is still in his crib. He hasnt tried to crawl out yet but the crib mattress sits really low so he should have a hard time getting out. I plan to keep him in a crib till hes 2 or close to 2.

both my sons were in a bed by the time they were 12 month, i bought little tikes car bed for my eldest and a step 2 fire engine bed for my youngest i found the fire engine bed better as it has sides on it. but both adapted well my friends son is nearly 3 and is still in a cot.

Im gonna leave my 16 month old daughter in the crib for as long as i can. She moves everywhere in her crib and i worry about that if she were in a toddler bed. They dont seem all that big! Shes not trying to climb out yet...so thats where she will stay.

My son has slept in a toddler bed since he was 12 months old. We put it against the wall, for one side, and have a body pillow tucked underneath on the other side. He gets in and out completely on his own. He did roll out a couple times at first, but the body pillow was there so it was no big deal. He loves his bed!

We moved out daughter into her toddler bed about a week after her 1st birthday (she's now 16 months). She did absolutely awesome with it. We do not have any issues with her coming out of her bed & playing at bedtime either! Guess we got off lucky!! It's whenever you think your child may be ready for that transition.

I usually upgrade mine into a bed when someone else needs the cot or they start climbing out of the cot! This has been anywhere from 16 months up. I would be fine with younger than that as well, it has just been a matter of what works for our family at the time

I just bought my little girl a bed with a trundle. She is 16 months and is going to stay in her cot til she is 2. The I am going to pull out the trundle and start her in that. One I know she will stay in the bedall night, I will put her in the big bed and leave the trudle pulledout so that if she falls she will land on the trundle. Good luck.

My lil one is 16 months and she is still in her crib. I will leave her in it as long as I can. I am always worried about her getting into something so I hope she is able to stay in it a little while longer.

I just found a race car toddler bed at a yard sale for $50 yesterday so I bought it, but I'm hoping my little guy will stay in his crib for a while longer. I will keep him in there until he starts to climb out, and then for his own safety I'll let him sleep in the toddler bed. He shares our room with us, and there's alot he could get into, so the longer he stays in the crib, the better. He'll be 17 months on the 16th.

Yes I agree. It depends on your living style and the child. I moved my older son out at about when he was 2. My daughter is almost 17mos in acouple weeks. I am keeping her in her crib because she will get into everything! good luck

My daughter is also 16 months and completely content in her crib as well. I figure that I wont convert it until she starts to climb out of her crib. I nannied for a family of twins (a boy and a girl) the girl started climbing out of her crib as soon as she could walk while the boy stayed in his til he was almost 2...

We moved Jazmyn to a toddler bed about 2 months ago. She was just 15 months. She took to it easily and has never fallen out or had any problems. She loves being able to get up and play in the morning before we wake up. It took about three nights to train her to stay in the bed at bedtime.

Elsha moved out of the crib at 13.5 months. We moved into a new apartment and she put herself to bed and down for naps on our bed (at the time that was a mattress on the floor). I took the twin mattress and set it in her room and she hasn't been in the crib since then. We were sure to put the gate in her door way so she wouldn't get into things. Now she gets up n the morning and when she is ready for us she comes into out room and either curls up with us or wakes us. It's very nice to not get up when she cried at night! She does what she needs to do to be satisfied (within reason of course).

Tonight is my daughter Teegan's first night in her toddler bed. She is 16 months old and last night she decided to climb out of the crib at 2 in the morning! I didnt want her to try that again so I converted her crib today. I think that if he is happy in his crib let him stay in it until you feel comfortable with changing it over.

my son has been in a twin bed with side rails since he was 14 months. he fell out twice but we always have a body pillow on the floor. he's never fallen out since!! if he can get down off of furniture easily then i would say go for it!!
