Hey I'm LaDonna. My little girl, Olivia, is about to turn one. She takes a step or two now and then, but isn't walking yet. Are any of your JAN 09 babies walking yet? im scared she is a little late.

My girl was born Jan 22nd. She will be 1 in less than a week, and started crawling really early. She was good at crawling by about 6 months, and then she was pulling up and cruising at 6.5 months. I thought for sure she would be walking by 10 months. Clearly I was dead wrong. So far, she has taken about 5 unassisted steps on her own. Thats it. I have done a lot of reading and talking to friends with toddlers, and most of my friends said their babies started walking around 13 months. All of them with girls, who I hear take a little longer to walk. I was also told, by a counselor who studies development, that children who take just a little bit longer to walk end up having more coordination and balance. Hope this helps just a little!

She is not late at all. My girl started walking when she was 13 mo. Her cousin only got up at 18mo. GIve her time. She'll know when she is ready to walk. You'll be wishing back time, when she was only crawling. ;-) All the best for you and your girl.

My 14mo is just now letting go and trying to stand by herself. She's cruising and scooting around, but not crawling; not walking. She's just not "driven" like her nearly-4-yo sister was. Doesn't worry me. She wants it, but it's not the world to her. She'll get there when she gets there and seems to be enjoying the journey. :)

Every baby develops different so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think the average age is 15 months before they are fully walking so she is well on her way.

Hi...my baby Sydney is 14 months old already and she's not walking yet...she only takes 3 to 4 steps and turns to crawl. she's still scared to walk by herself. don't be too bothered, every child grow at its own pace. Just give her a little time and keep on practicing her so she will find the learning process more exciting and fun.

My son was born Jan 7, 2009 and he is now 14 months. He is still NOT officially walking. He does walk sometimes, he will walk back and forth around the living room or the house, randomly, but 90% of the time he walks on his knees. I think he prefers to walk on his knees because he can move around way faster, but I was still concerned about it since my other children (I have 6 total) all started walking at 10 months - 12 months!!

I took my son in to see his doctor and she said that he was perfectly normal and said that some kids just start later than others, and that as long as he does take some steps and moved along the furniture then there was no reason to be concerned. She did ask me however if we hold him a lot, and I said "yes" and my mother-in-law (who is also my nanny) will hold him all day if he lets her. And my doctor said that, that is part of the problem for the delay. Kids that are constantly held and never get put down, can not practice walking on their own. I know this may not be true for all kids, but it make sense for most who may not be walking yet.

Syrina is 14 months of age and not walking either except she doesn't take steps on her own yet. The doctor says if she isn't walking by her 15 month well child visit then they will work with us on getting her on her feet. She walks with someone holding her hands but that is it. I am so worried but they say not to. We have seen her stand up on her own but nothing more.

My Jakey started walking at 10 months..he was only 1 week into his 10th month! However, I know that he is the exception and not the norm. (He has REALLY bit feet, and we think this has given him a "leg up"! I have a friend whose boy just started walking at 15 months. Don't worry about her being behind schedule. If she starts later, she will surely be more sturdy on her feet than Jakey was at 10 months! He was falling all the time, but was still trying to run! Good luck!

Don't worry...she'll be fine and will learn to walk soon. All my children walked around 13 months. Have fun and try to enjoy the time crawling. DeWayne is into everything!! LOL

My son, Kage started walking far earlier than my oldest son did. Kage was walking at 10 months. I suggest if your worried, you might get her eyes checked. My oldest son didn't walk until he was nearly 18 months old, I started to get worried as he would walk while holding on to the couch, or an adult's finger, but never on his own. Come to find out, he was terribly far-sighted (like myself). It's probably unlikely that this is your daughter's reason, but at least you'd know it's not a problem down the road either.

My son is 13.5 months and has been walking since just before his birthday. He started out just a few steps at a time and mainly crawling but within a few weeks was full out walking and quit crawling all together. I wouldn't be worried though every baby is different and they can walk anywhere from 10-18 months.

hey :) my little girl was born 15 jan, so she is now about 14months and shes stil not walking. she'll walk with assistance but thats about it. but i'm not too worried. the average age that a baby starts walking at is 18months. theres just a lot of pushy moms out there. don't worry about it. every child is different. and besides its actually scientifically proven that the later your child crawls and walks, the smarter they are :)

Hi LaDonna! My little girl is almost 14 months and has been walking since 10 months...on the other hand my son, 2yoa, didn't walk until he was almost 14 months. Every child develops at their own pace so nothing to worry about. Both of my kids have excelled in some areas and in others it seemed like they would never catch up...of course both are very different. My son is extremely mechanically inclined and could take things apart and put them back together at about 10 months (including the remote control!)...my little girl has no interest in this and would rather play with a stuffed animal. The last thing you want to do is compare your chid to anyone else's. Your little angel will walk when she is ready. If you want to help the process along you may wish to try some excersizes with her such as placing her in a standing position across form a partner, then hold her hands and have your parter coax her to walk to him/her. Then switch, she comes to you while you coax/catch her. I did this with both of my kids and they both took their first steps this way. It is a lot of fun for the children and you! Hope this helps! Have a great day!

My daughter is almost 14 months old and just took her first steps last week. She's been practicing standing a lot, but hasn't really walked since those first steps. She didn't crawl until she was 11 months old. My dad has commented that Emma is slow, but everyone else says she's doing just fine--including her doctor.

She has a walker that she adores pushing all around the yard, so she's getting lots of practice moving those little legs. She just hasn't figured out her balance yet.

My little girl Billie started walikng at 10 months, but that is very very early. Anytime from 9 months on but there is no right or wrong, or early/late. Every baby is different. Don't think your daughter is late, she will do it in her own time, when she is good and ready! Good luck

Every child is different and develops at their own pace. at 12 months to not be walking is not out of the ordinary. My son starting taking his first steps at 9 almost 10 months and now he walks around like it's nothing lol. My good friends son is 1 month older than Joe and just recently started taking his first steps. As long as your doctor thinks that he is developing on track I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just keep working with her. Hold her less and entice her with her favorite toy or object to come and walk towards you to get to it. It's mostly a matter of muscle development. The stronger her muscles get the better she'll get at walking. Good luck and don't worry!

You dont need to worry kids are different some walk early others walk late. All you need to do is to encourage her any time she try to walk clap after every step and she will keep trying so that she can get more and more claps!

My second son, Nathan, started walking a couple weeks ago. His 1st birthday was on January 15, 2010 and he now walks most times and crawls others. He was standing on his own for awhile before he walked. My other son, Kevin, who will be 5 on March 20th walked at 11 months. Every baby is different. Some learn to talk more and some are more physical.

My daughter turned 1 mid-January and was walking by the end of the month. However, my son did not walk until 15 months. Every child is different! It all depends on what their brains are trying to figure out at the time. My daughter's daycare teacher was telling me that many times, speech and walking are competing for mental resources around the same time, so one wins out usually and then the other follows on its heels. Now that my daughter is solidly walking, she is trying out sounds VERY close to words. Exciting times...
