My daughter just found her thumb And has been sucking on it to fall asleep. Friends and family member have told my husband and I we need to give her a a paci instead! My 19 mo old son never needed a paci or sucked his thumb. So we don't know of we should let her keep on with her thumb or try and gI've her a paci instead. We need input!

thumb sucking is bad. there is not anything good about it. some adults do still suck their thumbs. you should use a paci because you can take it away later. you cant take her thumb away.

In regards to baby stopping sucking his thumb himself ... that isn't always the case and it's unfair for you to offer that as advice when it is untrue. I have a friend who still sucks her thumb and she is 27 with an overbite.

sumthing that is natural is betta than a pacifier....dun go for artificial things ...baby will himself stop sucking his thumb at a certain time.....dun worry

You may not be in charge of that decision in the end, lol...however, i would suggest you offer the pacifier because...one of my four was a thumb sucker and it led to bite problems as she pushed the roof of her mouth up with her thumb....braces for many years was the result of thumb sucking that i encouraged because i thought it looked cute and people scolded about pacifiers...

Just my opinion, Dodie or "paci" is better as it can be taken away whereas its much harder to stop them sucking their thumb. Also i dont agree that only dummys affect teeth. You can now get orthapedic dummys which do not affect the shape of the pallet, its actually thumb sucking that causes mouth deformaties as much as cherry dummies! My friends daughter is having to have her jaw reset and braces to realign her jaw because of thumb sucking. It's whichever you prefer. I try my son with a dodi but he isnt interested, he sucks his t-shirt/muslin/bib. He's happy so, so am I :)

I would say, "whatever your baby prefers." I was super hung up on it with our first child, but he "told" us what he wanted. He used the pacifier until he was maybe 4 months old and once he found his thumb, we took the pacifier away. Now, he is VERY good at self soothing, which is ultimately what you want. Good luck! If you do use a pacifier, don't let them use it forever. It can affect their teeth eventually!
