Keeping our children safe on Facebook

Yesterday I had to send a message to a fb "friend" of my child telling him to remove my daughter's pic from his extremely offensive fb photo album. After his refusal and blatant disrespect, my husband and I are following up.

In order to be permitted to have a fb account, parents need to make it conditional that their children fb "friend" them. If my husband and I weren't fb friends with our child, we would not have known the vulgar disrespect shown to my daughter and to myself on this boy's page. And of course, the damage is done because his offensive act now lives on in cyber-space.

How sad that a cool social site is also abused by many. Let's keep Facebook a safe place for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you Selena & Eliza,

It is very upsetting. My husband and I are following up.. ..looking to see what we can do on fb and we are also contacting the parents - in writing.

fb has so many positives, as does the internet.. ..but you are right, there are so many who abuse fb & internet.

Maybe the more we talk about it, more people will be aware and be careful.

That's horrible Sheree! Unfortunately not all parents are as involved with their children's internet usage, it's such a dangerous place!

That stinks! Did you try using the "report this photo"? I think it's on the bottom right hand corner of the photo. At least you can report him to FB.

It's sad that some abuse this. I love FB. It helps me keep in touch with my family and friends all over the world!
