Wearing undies, won't pee/poop in a potty yet because she says she doesn't want to. Cleaning up accidents. Just started giving it more attention this week, hoping for potty training to be done in a month or two.

I have been trying for some time now with my son (an only child) on potty training. He is doing well some days. It even will look like we have it down. Next thing I know he refuses to go again on the potty, and will go in his pants or Easy ups. He use to tell me when he had an accident and now will just ignore it, and tell me he hasn't had an accident when I noticed it. I'm getting frustrated, but am trying to stay positive. I have tried the treat and sticker chart. Nothing seems to work these days. I'm thinking it's because of the new puppy. So hopefully with time this will pass. I hope the rest of you are doing better in this area.

my son is very self aware. but very uniterested in going on the potty. we've tried three different potty seats other than the regular toilet. He was doing pretty well for about three weeks a couple months ago but just completely lost interest. I'm still working on it, but if he doesn't have a diaper on, he'll run and hide and pee or poop on the floor instead of the potty! or if he has a diaper on, he'll poo and then take off the diaper and get the wipes to try to clean himself and then go and dump the poo in the potty and wash his hands.
what's with the back steps?!?

We are. We went straight to panties so she could feel the wet and not like it. We also reward pee in the potty with 1 M&M & 1 sticker, poo in the potty is rewarded with 2 M&Ms & 1 sticker...so far it's working. Also we bought a travel potty seat at BRU so we can take it with us. My DD is so little (just 27lb and still in mostly 18m clothes) that her little butt would fall in the toilet! We use it at home and take it with us everywhere we go. We have some accidents...but not too many. All in all I'm pleased with how well she's doing for just doing this the past 2 weeks.

My daughter Melanie tells us when she needs to do poo's and goes to the toilet (have a step up seat) and tells me after she has done wee's in nappy, training pants or undies but she refuses to wee on the toilet ( have let her come in with me and explained mummy's having a wee) so am not sure what to do...spose i will just have to be patient but with her going through this my younger daughter Loralei (10 July 2007) is starting to toilet train and is happy to do wee's and poo's like a big girl and all i do is give her a cheer and she is just happy as larry, am thinking of using stickers as a reward as i have heard it works with some children.

I have twin girls that will be 3 years old in July and one of them is potty trained and the other does not want any part of it. She see's her twin sister going and doing great and getting gifts for a job well done and she still does not care. She asked me to please put a diaper on her and told me she was a baby. I haven't tried pull ups I just used panty's. Any ideas on how to get her to join in on the potty train????

More than likley it has everything to do with the new baby. Ryan went through that when Parker came along, although we hadnt started potty training yet. But Ryan stopped talking and proceeded to babble and cry like his little brother, and started crawling all over the place. It didnt last long thou, a few weeks at most. Good Luck!

My son has become very stubburn with potty training in the past month. He use to get so excited when he went on the potty, but now he wants nothing to do with it & insists that his diaper is clean when its not. I'm not sure if having a new baby in the house is the reason or if i'm getting the terrible two's at 2 1/2... I do have a good friend tho that her son didn't jump on the potty training wagon until he turned 3. I'm sure hoping he comes back around by then.

Love the gumball machine idea, Stacie. I'm definitely having some trouble getting my son to poop in the potty. He has no problem going pee however. I took him out the other day and bought him a huge assortment of "big boy undies"--he picked out all his favorite kinds but this still doesn't seem to work. He's stubborn as a mule, and I'm beginning to think he'll be in diapers until I'm ninety.

Hi Tanya!
My name is Stacie and I have a 2 1/2 year old (obviousley right...lol) son named Ryan.
He is ALMOST totally trained..YAY. We only use pull-ups at night and at naptime, other than that he wears "papa undies" (whitey tighties like my dad wears... they are best friends lol). We had quite the time getting him to poop in the potty thou, finally I gt so sick of washing poop out of the undies that I told him every time he poops his undies he has to take a shower.. his LEAST favorite thing he LOVES the bath but HATES the shower. I had to give him 1 shower and viola he rarley poops his pants and when he does its at night in his pull up!
We also bought him a gumball machine and I found sugar free gumballs. We made a little bank that he was able to decorate and when he would pee he got a penny. If he pooped he was given a penny but was allowed to choose wether to put it in the bank for use it for a gumball. The penny/gumball trick also works for getting him to do little chores (picking up his toys, putting his dirty laundry in the hamper, and throwing away his 4 month old brothers diapers, his idea, and other little things as they come up) when he does these things he can take a penny from his bank for a gumball, it works really well.
We also took him to the store after his first accident free day and bought him a new hot wheels car, and after his first accident free week, we took him to the hobby store and got him a new peice of track for his Thomas the Train set.
Good Luck!

I have gotten her to not go in the pullup or big girl panties, when we are out in public. When we are home she goes when she wants. The good thing is she will uusually say when she has to poop...the bad part about this is it is usually never at a convenient time as she has to sit for about 20 mins before she is done

Hi Tanya! Nice to meet you!
My son decided one day a couple of months ago at a restaurant that he wanted to use the potty. My husband took him and sure enough he went. Now, here's the weird part....he went potty maybe 5 or 6 times in the next week...only for my husband. He would sit on the potty for me, but never went. Then he stopped completely up until yesterday.
He came downstairs and took my hand, pulled me upstairs and announced as he was pointing to his potty that he ''went pee-pee in the potty". Sure enough he did!!!! All by himself, didn't tell anyone. He has tried several times since yesterday morning, but hasn't done it yet.
How are you doing with potty training?
