Hi, I have a boy. He seems very happy and intellgent. The problem is he bites his nails. I wouldn't worry so much, but he bites them way down to were it hurts. I keep them trimmed, but that seems to cause him to bite them futher down. How do I get him to stop?

Both my kids (3 and 4) bite their nails and I've tried numerous times to stop them. My son is worse, he bites the edges of his skin. I agree with Michelle, I think it's a nervous habit as well. Some people use something that taste bad or spicy to prevent biting.

My son bites his nails all the time. It's almost like a nervous habbit. I asked my grandmother what to do, and she just tells me to put something that tastes bad on his fingers. I haven't done it because when my son gets something nasty in his mouth he forces himself to throw up. I don't know what to else to suggest. Please repost if you find something that works.

Thankyou for responding! I will let you if something works out, but I am still clueless as of yet. Nothing seems to work. I am running out of ideas. It must not be common because you where the only one to answer.

My 9 yr old son has done that ever since he was a toddler. I swat his hand away from his mouth when I see him doing it or I explain to him that it is bad manners and more importantly bad for his nails but nothing seems to work for very long. If you figure something out plz let me know!
