ever since my son was little he's had seizures when his tempature gets too high. The doctors told me it's normal but I haven't met anyone with kids that have these seizures. This last time my son had a seizure and he stopped breathing his hands, feet and lips turned purple. The medics said it's normal(again them saying normal). We brought him to the hospital and they checked his blood urine for infection. He didn't have any infection. Should I get him referred to the mayo clinic of rochester mn?

My daughter has had 2 febrile seizures, the doctors say the same thing to me... And its true... you just have to make sure that at any sign of a fever, you give him some motrin. Thats what we have done... Both seizures, she turned blue, even the whites of her eyes were blue. You just have to work through it and I know how hard it is to see your baby be helpless, but it is very normal...

My child has them, and I had them when I was younger. Turning Purple is normal during a seizure even though it is scary. Most importantly keep him from hurting himself, and TIME the seizure. This helps the doctors determine if there was any damage caused. They tested my daughter for urine infection, and hers came back negitave as well. However our pediatrician went a step futher and had her bladder tested with an ultrasound and a special ex-ray and we found out she has something called Urinary Reflux. Which basically means urine is travling back up to her kidney's which was causing the fever. She is on a daily dose of antibiotics now and should out grow it and the siezures. So far we haven't had any more fevers! Keeping our fingers crossed. I hope this helps.

One of my twin girls used to have febrile seizures and focal seizures. She has since grown out of it. I also work as an EMT, and I can tell you that it is normal. The course of a seizure can make you stop breathing. The length of the seizure and how long their brain is deprived of oxygen is what makes the difference in how they treat everything. I knwo it is very scary, but the best thing you can do is call EMS. I would definitely say that if you think this is something else get a referral to a neurologist. There is no harm in getting a second opinion. Just remember the best thing to do is allow them to have the seizure, and that he needs to be on oxygen as soon as possible during and after. That will also make the post dictal state go away faster afterwards. Hope that helps. P.S. They did a seizure test on my daughter. It may be what you need to request.

hey, just saw your post and thought id give one girls opinion...... as a nurse i can tell you that yes it can be normal for anyone to have seizures with very high temps, but i do not specialize in pediatrics so as a mother of a child with heart disease id also like to point out that we do need to advocate for our children, and in my experience a second opinion is always a good idea because different doctors have seen and have experienced different things. one concern should be finding the underlying causes for the fevers, because it usually indicates some kind of infection. id say if you are still having concerns do not hesitate to see different doctors until u feel satisfied with some answers. I hope this was at all helpful and good luck :)
