My son is 2 1/2 years old. I think he is normal for age, he is an only child, so he is not as social as some of his peers I've met that have siblings. I am in Early HeadStart, to help him socialize more. He seems to be doing ok with play groups. For the most part his first 2 years of life were spent with either my husband or I, little other contact with anyone else.
So he is slightly uncomfortable around different people. At his 2 1/2 yr check up, the doctor told he that there was something wrong with him, because he cried the whole time we were there. He did not want to get undressed to be examined, and did not want the doctor to touch him. So the doctor told me that there was something wrong with him.
I do not know that i agree, i am not comfortable around doctors, period. So many he was reading my anxiety.
I do not know. Anyway, his name is Jesse James, and he is a beautiful blue eyed, blonde hair angel, that is the light of my life.

Hello, I can empathize with you. It is hard to hear that something might be wrong with your child. My 3rd child (a boy) at his 3 year check-up my dr told me that something was wrong with my child that I need to have him evaluated by a hearing specialist and speech therapist. Well, we had his hearing tested and it came out fine. So, I figured that I would wait a while on the speech figuring that he was just slow with his speech. That he was like his older brother. He turned 3 in June 2008 and in Jan 2009 he went for his preschool screening and I was shocked to learn he failed it! The school got us in contact with the county to have him evaluated and by the spring time we found out that he qualified for speech therapy and development help. So, I felt bad that I almost missed an opportunity to get help for him and possibly delay him in being able to have him go to kindergarten in time this fall coming up. He has been in preschool since the fall last year going 2 times a week and he has totally excelled. So, he will be able to go to kindergarten this fall with some aid in speech still. We can understand him so well now and he is exhibiting growth in the developmental area. We are so proud of him.

I wouldn't get too upset with your dr. Your dr is showing concern (like they should) they don't claim that they are experts in that area, they just know something isn't right.

I would recommend getting in contact with your school district or google your County to find out how to get your child evaluated. It's a free service and it's just a wise thing to do to make sure that your child is on the right track. If they are not, the county can advise you on what needs to be done to get them where they need to be. This is just to aid the child so that they do not have to struggle in school. Giving the child or helping with their learning is a great gift anyone can give.

This does not say that you are not doing your job as a parent if your child has a learning disability or if something is going on with your child. If anything, when you take the initative role in your childs development that shows you are concern and want the best for your child.

I can speak from some experience here because I have been running my own daycare since 2004 and have taken many child developmental classes along with having 4 kids (expecting my 5th child next month). But I do not claim to be an expert.

Your child sounds like he is a wonderful child. Please have him evaluated that way you will know if he is on the right track or not. As parents, if we choose to be blind to a situation, then we may end up hurting our children in the end. It is always best to investigate situations at all angles. I hope everything turns out well with your family and please let us know how things are going.

Oh, additional note: If you are not comfortable around this doctor maybe it was the dr making your child uncomfortable. You might need to find a different dr. If your child isn't participating in play with other child and excelling in the developmental area then that is were you will want to have him evaluated by the county. I just re-read your post so thought that I should let you know about this.

i feel for you. it is not fair for th epediatrician to say that. why not get a second opinion? it is very difficult to find a very good doctor where in both you and your child is comfortable with. just keep trying to find out, ask your friends with children and observe their children if their children are healthy.

because no matter what we do one day our children will need a doctor. it is best to find one you know and trust
